A Plymouth man fell asleep while boating on the St. Croix River early Wednesday and ran aground on the Wisconsin side of the river two miles south of Afton.
Bradley Carter’s 45-foot Sea Ray ran aground about 12:40 a.m. on a rocky shoreline just south of the St. Croix and Pierce county line. About three-quarters of the boat landed on shore, said Derek Featherstone, a deputy sheriff for recreation safety for the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.
Featherstone said Carter, 53, was not injured, but the boat suffered heavy damage – about $50,000 worth – to its hull and drives.
Alcohol was not involved; Carter was given a field sobriety test at the scene and tested negative, Featherstone said.
