King Salmon: A little off the river subject

Hey Folks! just got back from a trip over to Lake MI, fishing out of Two Rivers. We really had a great time with the Kings once we figured out the pattern. The bite had been an offshore bite, 75 to 100 plus foot, but we found them on the inside of a thermal break in 35′, staging for the annual run up the rivers. This was our second trip this year, the first to Kenosha was basically a bust with bluebird skies and dead calm waters. This trip was much different. We started out fishing Sheboygan, based on the reports but stumbled into Two Rivers and found much better conditions there.

We were fishing out of my rig (18″ alumacraft TP w/ 150 Yam) and though we did have riggers mounted and used them, they are not totaly necessary as many of the fish came on the planers. Out tactic was clean lines & spoons, no dipseys, flashers or extra hardware. Long leads behind the boards and snap weights as well as 50-75′ out behind the rigger balls. This is easily do-able out of the majority of boats we use, and with common sense as your guide, you can also be safe. I felt totally comfortable in 6-7′ rollers we had going most of the time.

It took a day to figure out what they wanted, but when we did we went 20 for 21 on takes saturday. 8 for 8 in the morning with a average weight of about 15lbs. We managed to scrape up a 25lb, 37″ beast as well as numerous doubles on 15+ pounders. The pattern was going strong on monday as well, but we had to bail so we only got to fish the morning shift.

See attached shots for some eye candy! I had to buy a floor freezer to store all the fillets and steaks! That is if I can get them to attach here!

An 18 inch alumacraft Huh? You didn’t have many people with you did you? Where did you put the fish?
    Couldn’t resist, no offense intended.

Wow. Seems as though we have boat abuse today. But I’ve fished from Mike’s 18 incher. Nice boat, even if it is a little compact. The good thing is that it fits nicely in the glove compartment for easy hauling. And launching is simple.

ya you know, I’ve got the riggers mounted on one of them remote control jobbies.

Salmon fishing is addictive indeed. I still cannot figure out how to get the images attached though….

Hey Mike, I’ve got a good pic of your cat from our day out, I’ll email it over.
