For 2 years I knew it was going to happen. and today it did.
After 39 years in my career, this afternoon at 3:30pm, it is over.

I should look at it as a new beginning, but the last week has not been an easy one.

Maybe I’ll go Bass fishing tomorrow.

Hang in there Jack. As guys we put alot of value in our jobs and so it really shakes us when they end but it is a part of life. Keep a positive attitude and don’t take it personally—it was their loss. You have a great family so enjoy them and on a personal note—now might be a good time to try and break that nasty bass addiction. The walleye are going on the river and Pepin now!!!!

Great accomplishment Jack. Congratulations. Take some well deserved time to share some quality moments with freinds and family.

If it weren’t for work, I could get alot more fishing done.

39 years is a long time to be in one career. You must have been very good at your occupation. Enjoy yourself the golden years are what we are all working for. Take a week and do nothing then make a list of all the things you want to do and see and then do them.

    Congrats to you, Jack.
39 years is a testiment to the type of person you are – dedicated and honorable. Not many people in this work force today that will even conceive the idea of working that long.
We tend to let our job become our identity and when that comes to a close, we feel we are loosing our identity, but it is just the opposite. You now are gaining recognition for who you really are because now you will have the opportunity to do what YOU WANT to and when (after the honey-do list of course).
Stay busy at working harder than ever now on the things you love.

    To a job well done….

They say the average guy will have 5 jobs in a 4o year work span. You really blew that stat out of the water. It sounds like you will have more time to do what you enjoy.

    Good Luck, Mark

I am confused. Are you retiring, being forced to retire or being laid off? Either way, you deserve the extra time on the water you’ll have!

congrats on your retirement, you have earned it. If you don’t know, the first rule is to learn to say no. it’s been 5 years for me and its fabulous.

just one thought, if you have all of this time now Jack, does that mean you are going to catch BK’s all time high mark for most posts in a single year??

Not sure if that is possible. I mean I would assume he’s going to atleast try to fish a little bit more now.
