Brian, any idea when the new 2008 Lakemaster chip will be out? I am hoping they will have added a lake that I’ve asked to have added. I know….early….but you know how us kids are when it comes to fishin toys. Have you been out on the water lately or are you ”hooked” on sneaking Deans cookies? Hows it going Bud?
    Thanks, Bill

I was out on the 3rd with the FW and FD for a couple hours before the lightening started. The tagged sturgeon photo is in the catfish forum.

I haven’t heard anything about new releases…in fact, I didn’t know there was going to be any(?) But then again, I’m generally the last guy to know.

PS My normal method of operation is to have the boat in the water, grab the best homemade peanut butter cookies and RUN for the boat. Seems like once I make it to the water Dean stops chasing me.

For a cripple, that guy can sure run fast!

Brian, I’ve got it and have played with it some. Not enough to be a real expert, but I like it. I like the ability to study lakes, make waypoints, etc. on the puter and be able to transfer them to the GPS.

As far as comparing to Map Create, I say they are apples and oranges. I seem to have a lot of issues with map create and you can’t look at the same lake contour information on the puter as you have on your GPS.

I will say, it seems to me if you buy the Lake Master chip and the LakeMaster Pro Contour Software for the same area a break in price would in order.

FYI, I have the MN versions. I’d like to hear others view points or ideas on how to use it.

    Brian,

I have used the LakeMaster software for years. The new version “Contour Pro” is much better. It has many updated features. One of the best is the new method of importing waypoints to view them on LakeMaster’s maps. Now it is easy to import waypoints and you get to keep the same names. LakeMaster maps are much more detailed than the MapCreate 7 lakes. Don’t forget the zoom and print features. You can print any zoom level with your waypoints on the map.

I’ve had an older version for years! I think once you learn to use it as a tool, you will really like it! I use it all the time……scoping out new spots from my chair here in the office

I found out it does not work with the Vista windows operating system! I guess they are working on it, but may be a while. I suppose they want more $ for that! Sorry but once you buy the program I think they should service it with the appropriate upgrades for present operating systems.
One thing I really like is the ability to select a depth range and have the range show up as colored in all over the lake. Pretty cool.

    Ivan,

The last time I spoke with LakeMaster they said that Vista was causing them a large headache and they are working on the problem.

They didn’t say that the fix would cost more…but I ‘spose it might.

I’ve learned over the years (with computers) upgrading isn’t always the best. Microsoft Excel comes to mind of the top of my head…I think it was version 2 and 2.5 that really sucked until 3 came out.

Then there was Mac that switch to OS X. NONE of the software from OS 9 will work on 10…unless the computer is changed to the “classic” mode.

I’m getting a bit off topic…but hang in there…I’ll have an update tonight.

Brian, I’ve been using the Lakemaster Computer mapping software all year and it really saves time scouting on the water, getting to see waypoints on a printed map, etc. Now when i get on the water i have specific wpts marked to spots to check out depending on the seasonal movements of walleyes which saves time and helps find the spots away from all the other boats. Very good software and easy to use. I like sitting on the laptop rather than in the boat in front of the sonar.

    Brian,

I really like the Countour Pro for printing out maps of

different areas. I used it alot this past winter for ice

fishing on Mille Lacs. It’s much easier to look at a mud flat on a

8 1/2 x 11 than to scout your next spot by zooming out on the H2Oc.

The blue ink gets a little spendy though!!

It’s also a great way to backup your saved waypoints!!

I highly recommend it to H2Oc users.

    Dan
