Actually I already have a deck but I am redoing it, I would like to replace the spindles with clear panels, plexiglass or something similar?

Anyone do this or had it done?

Where did you get the panels if so?

One of the guys in my office built his deck out of steel (he’s a workaholic engineer) and used glass panels instead of spindles. I’ll ask him where he got the panels…

i was on one just this weekend that had the plexiglass panels. i know it was hot out, but being on that deck was like sitting in a hot oven. Would probably be alright in a shaded area, but in the sun was brutal.

i believe menards still carries the clear panels. My aunt put them on and they are great. Just make sure you “Rain-Ex” them occasionally so the rain sheets off instead of leaving spots..

My wife works in the office of a glass company and she can get plexi-glass. If you want I can ask her for prices. She said that plexi can get cloudy from the sun and also scratch easy. She reccomended tempered glass. Good luck!!

tempered glass or lexon is the two choices I would go with. Glass must be tempered or it will break easy and some one will get hurt also needed to pass code. Tempered glass is also very expensive.

I’ve seen some iron designs that look pretty cool too. Having cedar runners on top and bottom with the iron bars inbetween about 4″ apart.

I would assume rust would be a factor there, but if it was blasted and coated then maybe not?
    just a thought

I have a feeling glass is not going to be cheap , I am going to get a couple of estimates. You say lexan how is that for scratch resistence?
