    From the DNR website:

Search for drugs finds gross over limit of fish; Fines and restitution totals more than $6,000 (2007-06-19)
A search for drugs recently uncovered a freezer full of illegal fish in a Waite Park residence.

On April 13, the Central Minnesota Drug Task Force executed a search warrant for drugs when they discovered the fish. A count by state conservation officers found Jackson Ho, 43, and Vinh Van Ho, 39, both of Waite Park, possessed a total 207 sunfish, ten crappies, and nine bass over the legal limit. Jackson Ho and Vinh Van Ho told conservation officers that neighbors had brought them the fish.

A check of the DNR database for game violations showed Vinh Van Ho had previously been convicted of seven different game violations including over limit of fish and fishing in a closed season. He had also been convicted four times for fishing without a license.

The Minnesota daily/possession limit for large and smallmouth bass is six; the daily/possession limit for crappies is ten; the daily/possession limit for sunfish is 20.

Jackson Ho and Vinh Van Ho face fines totaling $2,345 each, and restitution of $25 each for the crappies, $135 each for the bass and $517 each for the sunfish.

A trial date has not been set.

Bass aren’t worth $135. each are they?

    Seriously…this guy don’t get it.

I enjoyed this one from Mille Lacs…

While checking anglers, CO Mike Lee (Isle) along with CO Fitzgerald approached a boat with a man and women seated who appeared to be working on something very intently and quickly on one of the boat’s benches. When they arrived at the boat’s side the male party in the boat held up a very large walleye and stated, “Hey, look at its tail, doesn’t it look funny?” At that moment the individual dropped the walleye into the lake. Before dropping the walleye into the water Officer Lee observed that the walleye’s tail fin was completely straight with no natural curvature to the tail fin. Officer Fitzgerald was able to land the fish with a landing net, due to the fish being near death. Upon inspecting the fish further it was clear the rear tail of the walleye had been cut. After a lengthy conversation the man finally stated, “I saw you checking the other boats and panicked, because the walleye was too big to keep. So I did the only thing I could think of make the fish smaller, but when you came up to the boat I thought I better just get rid of the fish.” After being informed that walleye do not have a perfectly straight tail fin, and that it was very obvious that it had been cut, Officer Lee advised the male party that he had not cut the tail fin short enough, because it still measured 20 ½ inches, well into the restricted slot size. As the officers left the boat’s side the male individual continued to blame the female party for what had happened. Other enforcement action was taken for insufficient PFDs, no angling license, failure to use required navigational lights, and no fire extinguished on board.

SOME PEOPLE JUST DON’T GET IT AND THE THING IS THAT A WALLEYE IS NOT WORTH A 180 DOLLAR FINE.

Huh? You told me you were confused as to why the DNR didn’t have a bounty on them.

No they aren’t worth $135 each. They are worth about ten times that!

correct me if I am wrong, but I read that as total cost per person for the over limit of each species, not actually per fish

in other words each person would have to pay $15 per bass overlimit, $2.50 for each crappie, and about the same for the sunfish.
so I guess brian is right, a bass isn’t worth $315!

    but I might be wrong
