I read someplace that fishermen in general are considered the worst litterers of all. I think I can guess where and who. It would be nice if we could post no littering signs in the proper places. The signs could be like the garage sale signs. Explain why and put the IDA logo on them. I would be willing to buy some if they were avaiable. I know, stop thinking. Got back from LacSeul yesterday, 2 grandsons. Good fishing, lotsa $$$$$$$$$ Dollar exchange tit for tat.

Signs are good but why not trash cans? That way there would be absolutely no excuses for littering, Not there are any good reasons for it with out trash cans. I would think that the proper combination of signs and trash cans in the right places would dramatically cut down on the littering. I know that i always bring anything that came out with me back with me and usually pick up after my fellow anglers. I carry a small trash can in my boat that usually comes back at least half full. Theres my 2 cents

I hear ya moler02, but something tells me that those signs would end up making good targets for bullets from the same type of people who leave the litter for mother nature and the rest of us to deal with. Unless they are caught in the act and held accountable, it likely won’t stop.

You would not believe all the crap laying along the banks of the Mississippi. But I think in fairness to the fisherfolks I think most of their littering is accidental.
Stuff blows out of the boat, or drops in, things get lost in the dark, etc. I think the majority of people don’t intentionally litter. I know I have accidentally; but I try not to.

I agree with DD…It happens quite a bit on accident. The last junior tournament my hat blew off..stupid me I put it on because we were stopping to fish but I put it on too early and it blew out. We didn’t have time to go back and get it, as the weigh in was in 5 minutes. We were trying to get another fish but in our haste I lost my good hat. I still won the tourney and got a new hat but it wasn’t a good feeling leaving something un-natural in the river.

In my opinion its the non fisherman that are the biggest litterbugs. They are always leaving beer/pop cans lying around. Food wrappers and such. I know it can come from both, but I personally have seen more non-fisherman littering than fisherman.

I have seen more litter by fisherman than non-fisherman. That is in the areas that I have seen the worst. Namely, Foster Arens in Rochester and West Newton. At Foster Arens there maybe a problem with the summertime kids and parties. But in the wintertime there is so much litter there that you cannot believe. Day after day. Also the amount of gas bottles (propane) left is unbelievable. At West Newton when I fish it from shore in late Sept. till freeze up it is also terrible. Now that I think about it the Finger Lakes Parking area is bad in the winter and the Alma Dike Road at the end at the damm is very bad. At the Finger Lakes in the winter I have had more than a few people tell me that it is the Asians. Well, since I fish it three times a week all winter I have not seen any Asians fishing in the winter. What I do is have a garbage bag in my vehicle and pick up what is left when I come out. The strange thing is that I have not witnessed anybody littering. Trust me, I would let them have it with both barrels! If you carry it in or on, take it out! By the way, both barrels means both arms! That’s all I have at the age of 68 they might still be potent! Anyway I would go down swinging. I just hate littering!

I wouldn’t consider it littering, but I don’t like leaving lures stuck in the lake. It would be interesting to know how many are down there.

From what I have seen if a sportsmans litters it is usually
by accident..There seems to be , more respect for our natural resources from the people that enjoy them ,I was taught you pack out what you pack in !
