Does anyone know the correct mix ration of bleach-water to spray on roof moss? I need to know this afternoon. It worked well last year but I cannot remember ratio and I dont want to mix it any stronger than necessary. Thanks.

The less expensive solution is to spray wash the roof with a 50 percent mix of water and bleach to get rid of the algae. (No pressure washers, please. They’re likely to damage the shingles.) Just be sure to wet your foundation plantings first, and rinse everything in clean water when you’re done. Plants don’t like bleach, and wetting them with plain water first protects them. —directly from “this old house”

Once you get it off the roof a way to prevent that from happening is to place zinc strips at the top of your roofline. The rain washes off of the zinc and protects the roof from having the moss grow. (some chemical that is in the zinc washes down the roof) Just thought I would add that info.

You can use the bleach water mix to try to remove algae staining but to remove actual moss growth you are going to have to use some force. Do you actually have moss chunks growing or are you talking about the algae staining and streaks? If it is the algae staining, you can do the bleach water mix, have fun. Otherwise if its the moss, maybe lightly scrap it off or spray it off with a hose, not the old power sprayer. Then maybe the bleach water solution to try to clean it up better. IMO, I don’t monkey with it much but if it bothering you, have at it.
The zinc strips do work like a charm, except its kind of a trade off, the zinc when put on a brand new roof works great to keep the algae from forming, yet the trade off is the shiny zinc strips glaring all over your roof. More so in the first few years.

Id mix it at %25 bleach the rest water. If theres moss chunks like said above it will eventually break down and decompose or you can scrape it first. After you’ve sprayed your first coat reapply every couple hours, let it sit till the end of the day then rinse. It may take a few applications to get under the shingle and kill the growth there but its a safe way to get rid of it. As said befor rinse your plants after you’ve rinsed off the roof.
