Where to find a glass gallon jar?

Hello Everyone,
I am trying to find a place where I can find/buy a glass gallon jar for pickling some fish this weekend. I currently have some of the quart canning jars, but would like to have a glass gallon jar. Anyone know where they can be found?

I haven’t seen gallon size glass canning jars, bottles or crocks at least new ones. I know lots of antique shops wil have old gallon size glass containers such as bottles. You might do a web search to see what is available and where you might find it.

What kind of fish are you pickling? I have a buddy who pickles northern and suckers. The pickled northern is OK but the pickled suckers taste exactly like pickled herring which I love.

I think sometimes at food distributers and maybe even wallmart have isles for institutional size pickles and other stuff. This does mean you will have to put those in quart size jars untill you use them up. Hope that helps. Hey maybe a local bar has some from buying pickeled eggs or something.

You can buy pickles at the store in gallon jars. So you could reuse the jar, but I do not know anything about pickling.

I will be pickling northern, if I can get the right size northerns anyway. Pickled suck is good tooo

Go to your local favorite resturaunt(sp) and ask them if they have any. Most do and would gladly give up 1 or 2 or 3

Wade, I’ll keep my eye open at the restraunt, we get pickles and olive in glass jars, I’ll send you a pm if I find one.

I was on the same hunt a couple years ago for my pickling needs. I found a tavern with 6 pickled turkey gizzards in a jar. I made some new friends by sharing 4 gizzards and got a treat and….a jar.

I was able to get some from a local school cafeteria.
