I was wondering if anyone had any info about 2001 Yamaha 150 hp vmax ox66, any major problems with it? It is fuel injected but not the HPDI, Its on a 2001 crestliner 1850 sportfish i’m thinking of buying, thanks for any info.

Not no expert but it is what i have on my skeeter bass boat!

I LOVE IT! only problem i had with it was the fuel pumps (lift pumps) went out and had to get them fixed! cost $35 to get done!

its never missed a beat! it will idle all day without loading up!

the one down fall is it is some what of a gas hog! if you run her hard you will go threw the gas! but I’m sure most of these bigger motors are about the same!

for whatever that was worth i hope it helped!

Mark Steffes ( I think I spelt that correctly) has basically the same setup, The boat huals [censored] I think he has the carb’ed version. I have a 200 vmax ox66 on my boat, and from everything I read they are a bullet proof as you can get in a outboard. The only consideration being that you should always run ringfree or seafoam in you gas to keep the O2 sensor from carboning up and messing the proformance up, they can be cleaned, but they can also get too dirty to fix, and need replacement, Yamaha wants a couple hundred dollars to replace one, seems pretty much any 2 wire 02 sensor will work, so guys on another board put a 02 sensor in from a chevy pickup, had to splice the wires in, but it only set them back $40.

I have a 2002 200 vmax ox66 and not one bit of problems. (knock on wood) Easy to start and better on gas than my last motor. (Johnson GT 175)

I read your post and ran out to my garage to make sure someone had not stolen my boat and was trying to sell it to you…

That is a pretty close description of what I own, except I am 2002 and carb. The boat, and the VMax have been excellent. I go through a lot of gas, but other than that, no breakdowns, performance issues, as good a purchase as I have ever made.
