I am in a bad way looking for a gimbal bearing for my Mercruiser. Any one have any contacts or know of salvage yards or wear house for older mercruiser parts.

I need a gimbal bearing for a 1966-1969 Mercruiser 80 series sterndrive. This is a very odd bearing. It is held in the houseing with a rubber gimbal housing. Merc # is 38188. Any help would be greatly appreciated. With out this part my 1970 20 foot Crestliner cabin cruiser is scrap. worst part is the boat is still a beauty and runs great.

    Thanks a Million fellas. 218-280-0442

    Here is what I think.

If I recall all bearings are stamped with a I.D. number of some sort. Mercury buys their bearings from somebody. (I might be wrong but I don’t think they make them)If you have the old bearing and can get the number you should be able to research a source thru a wholesale bearing house.

Somewhere your bearing is sitting on a shelf. Find it and you will be able to send it next day air and still have less money into it then buying from a Mercury dealer.

I think my info on this is right………..if not somebody will hop on and straighten me out.

    Good luck in the search.

Try Roberts Marine, (715) 749-4133, if there is a Mercruiser Drive Part out there, he knows where it is. They are located in Roberts Wisconsin so you would have to get it shipped.
