I havent posted alot on here, but I try and learn as much as I can from all of you. Now I am asking for your help. I have late 80s 35 horse Johnson and I continue to blow through head gaskets. I have tried everything, the lateset idea is to bring the head in and get it shaved, thinking that it may be slighty warped. I use my boat alot but take great care of the motor and what will get me to where I need to be. At this point any ideas are greatly appreciated, it has become an easy fix but the thought of fishing big water has long since disappeared

When they shave the head, they should check for “hair line cracks” too. Also you should check the block as close as possable for the same. Good luck.

Once I lose trust in an outboard, I fix it properly(if repairable within reason).. and trade it in on another outboard I will have confidence in. There are quite a few places out there that will sell used outboards with a warranty for many people out there that cant flip the bill for a new outboard.

Machine work isnt cheap.. but if your head s slightly tweaked and thats the cause of your problem, obviously it should take care of it. After replacing the head gaskets in the past, do you have good compression on all cylanders?
