    Help,
I have a 2004 Alumacraft 175 Tournament Pro 175 tiller with a Yamaha F90 four stroke. I want to switch to a stainless prop. I’m running a 13 X 16 merc aluminum (reworked from a 15). I’m now pulling about 5900-5950 RPMS (power range is 5500-6000) and getting about 32-34 MPH gps with a normal load. I checked the Alumacraft performance info and they used a
a 17 pitch stainless. My boat is pretty heavily loaded. With the normal yamaha 15 inch prop I tended to over rev slightly. With a 17 I couldn’t get the rpms above 5400. Hench the reworked 15 inch to 16 inch. Can anyone suggest a stainless prop that would get me in the ball park. I would like just a little bit better hole shot then I have now. Normally I’d think I might have to go down to about a 15 pitch on the stainless because of the added mass.

    Thanks Dave

Just by switching from Alum to SS in the same pitch will drop RPM’s by about 200-300, because ther is no give and puts more water on the blades. Most dealers will let you try a prop for the weekend to test it out before you buy it. Give it a shot.

I have pretty much the same rig as yours, 03 Tournament Pro with an 04 F90 Yamaha. Prop is a 13 x 17 OEM aluminum, it tops out at about 33mph and 5800rpm. I’ve never had a ss prop on mine so I can’t help you out in that regard, but if you don’t mind, post which prop you end up getting and how you like it. My prop got a little beat up last fall on Mille lacs and I was thinking about switching to ss and keeping the old one as a spare. I just kind of wanted to know if the switch would be worth it. Thanks
