I’m about at wits end, my car luck this year have been slim to none, right now were are in process of buying a new car, so I’m borrowing my Parent’s 2000 Cadillac Deville.

Last night I parked the car, in the driveway, parked it with the wheels straight, nothing out of the ordinary, this morning I go out to start the car and the key will not turn in the ignition, I’ve now spent no less that a half hour playing around moving the steering wheel and key and I still can’t get the dang key to move or turn at all, I picked up the spare key and tried that same results. I tried moving the shift level around a bit, that didn’t seem to make any difference either.

Can anyone one help? We both need to get to work in the morning.

I’m sure you’ve tried another key!

That has happened to me before in my jeep, the steering wheel was locked so it wouldnt let the key turn. Your wheel will turn one way, the other it wont im assuming. Try to turn the wheel pretty hard the way it will turn, and turn the key at the same time. Thats what worked for me! Good luck!

I am assuming it is an automatic right? The only thing that I can think of that it could be is that the steering wheel would be locked, BUT if you parked it straight im not sure how that would have happened. Double check and make sure the key goes in all the way. other than that I dont know what to tell ya. sorry

I’ve wiggled and jiggled it all around in every which way, with both keys, I don’t get any error messages or blinking lights, I turned the wheel both directions and I’ve cranked on it a lot, nothing has changed.

Pretty darn sure, apparently the key wouldn’t have come out if it wasn’t 100% in park, either way I tried wigging the shift lever too.

Have you tried wiggling where you put the key in before you try putting it in??? Otherwise if it comes down to it you might have to read the instructions in the manual Not sure what it could be, just doesnt make sense. Maybe try calling a 24 hr. repair shop and asking them about it.

Wiggle the wheel while putting it into park as well. That usually does it. Other than that, try pushing the car back and forth, and then try it.

It sounds like you have a bad ignition cylinder. Mine went out and when it did it acted the same way you are describing it is just froze cant go forward nor backwards. Had to pull apart the entire steering column to replace.. Not a cheap process either if you got the lazer key or chipped keys.

I agree it sounds like a ignition lock cylinder. not a very easy fix. and you know that everything on a cadillac is more expensive.also if the battery is dead by some slim chance it will do the same thing.

Thanks for all the help, I’m fairly certain it’s a failed lock cylinder now, I’ve honestly tried everything everyone has suggested, and its the same. I’ll call the dealership tomorrow. Luckily My parents lent me this car they went to a graduation in WI and they are in duluth tonight for my cousin grad, tomorrow. Otherwise they’s be stuck who knows where. I guess thats a positive. Borrowed the Mother in laws car so we can make it to work.

Hey one other thing to try is to get the VIN number and have the dealership make a new key. That’s what happened to my toyota and now it’s like new and it only set me back around 5 to 10 bucks.

Ignition cylinders go out. We put a few in here, in fact I did one saturday. They are not that expensive, the chipped keys are, but the cylinder is no different. (On Mopars anyway) she had a $212.00 bill, $75 was for the tow here. Labor was $25.74 and balance cylinder. Good luck.

Buddy had the same problem. It was fixed when a lady came up and said “Get out of my car!!”

Have you called the Caddy dealership?
