woody.. the classified are currently under “re-construction”, I am sure it wont be too long before they are finished.
I have no clue exactly how soon they will be ready.
May 19, 2007 at 5:27 pm #572769I was hoping to have them finished yesterday but around 2am this morning I realized there’s at least another day’s worth of work to be done. (figuring on a 16 hour work day) lol
If there’s anyone on a Mac or using Internet Explorer if you could verify that the javascript on this page:
http://www.in-depthangling.com/classifieds/purchase.php?Cat=0&Board=miscads&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=186is working that would be great. I’m on Linux using Firefox and the total is being added up correctly. Please let me know if it isn’t being added up for you and if not, what browser your using. Thanks!
May 19, 2007 at 6:08 pm #572774The “free” ones will be comming back at some point, as the new system appears to go, basically you earn classified ads by posting, so you will get free ads in the future, but it’s a little ways off. Check the other threads, James did one in general discussions.

I tried it on Internet Explorer, it added up fine for me. Looks good.
May 19, 2007 at 7:14 pm #572787Same here Dave. Tried it on IE and it added everything correctly for me as well
May 19, 2007 at 7:59 pm #572800Hi Dave,
Mac with Netscape…Safari and Explorer all work fine.
So when did you start working short days?
May 19, 2007 at 8:33 pm #572801It sure isn’t the same not being able to see new ads on here everyday Sure hope they come back soon
May 19, 2007 at 8:55 pm #572804Am Watson.. there will still be adds coming up every day.
Myself, I would like to see this remain a fishing forum, and not IDA-Bay watching the general public constantly undercutting, or hijacking threads with things for sale… quite often we wouldnt see new outdoor realevant(sp?) topics on the new thread because they were constantly flooded with ads.
I use the classifieds myself from time to time.. I have no problem donating a couple dollars to easily sell off most sporting related items.
As for the earn an add system, I think its a great idea. Active users on the norm will rarely have to pay to sell anything… On the other hand, there were many users on here with 20-40 post relating to nothing besides the classifieds, and some of them nothing besides what they were selling.
The classifieds are a great service here, many of us appreciate them, and have taken advantage of them(respectfully).. A pay, or earn an ad system is a great way to keep it real… not just open the door for dealers and power sellers. If the power sellers want to use it, fine.. but they can donate a few bucks to the source that is making it possible for an easy sell.. IDA. Any money collected will help pay the bills, and make IDA a better place for all of us.
The fact is, the classifieds were being strongly abused. This is a much better system to let it police itself, and let our users sell goods and not be taken advatage of from others.
This is my personal overview.. and is not the official word of the *highest powers* of the site.
May 19, 2007 at 9:59 pm #572808Thanks guys
I had to stop working for a bit and help my wife paint. (I think they should outlaw those shows on TLC) lol
Anyhow, I’m back to hammering on the classifieds. As for “free” classifieds that will be worked in but they will still need to be earned by actually posting/participating in the forums.

I totally agree
May 20, 2007 at 3:30 am #572839Do retrospective or past posts count towards the earnings?? Or do we have to start earning from now?

Details have not been finalized. For the time being our biggest concern is to covert the classifieds to a pay system and then move on to a critical project that will further expand our offerings here. There will likely be a time lag between the conversion to the pay system and setting up the “earn an ad” system to reward loyal members.
We’ll push as hard as humanly while keeping an eye on prioritizing what we do and when we do it to ensure the site continues to grow.

I agree whole-heartedly. I’ve bought a few things from the Classifieds and sold a few things, but the main reasons I visit IDA are to find out information about catching fish, and to connect with people who love the outdoors like I do. If I want to buy or sell things, I can always turn to other sites that specialize in such activities.

May 22, 2007 at 10:27 pm #573955I like seeing a higher volume of ads. If I am looking for something, I like to see some options. I really don’t care if someone is just here to sell something. The way I see it, it is better for me to see more ads. Put me down for not wanting pay ads.
May 22, 2007 at 10:42 pm #573959Trust me, at this point there is absolutely no way we’re in a position to change course. We will charge for ads. And people will sell a TON of stuff through IDA. Just look at all those sold signs in each category.
If that’s doesn’t work for you >>> http://www.ebay.com

Why should the person that only posts in the classifieds not have to pay for an add? Show me anywhere else that you can sell items for free? It costs $$$$$ to keep the lights on here at IDA the pay system is one way to help keep the site up and running and at a very fare rate at that.
May 22, 2007 at 11:14 pm #573963There’s lots of small sites out there that offer free classifieds. We did when we started out. Show me a fishing site pulling 500,000 unique visitors a month and dishing 40 – 50 million pages views doing it.
We sell more items in the classifieds each week than those small sites have ads.
May 22, 2007 at 11:25 pm #573966Personally….I have sold many an item on IDA and I am a powerseller on Ebay as well, I think not only is it fair to expect to pay to use this feature here, I cant beleive it has been free this long already! Where else can you buy something from someone trusted? Ive never had a bad deal here as I have on Ebay! Not to mention the personal contact and fishing invitations received! My only issue is…hurry up, I have a lot of good fishing goodies to get rid of..ha ha!
May 23, 2007 at 5:58 am #574054Just be careful about scammers out there now guys.. I received an email y-day that wanted to buy my boat, and it was a theft ring.. protect yourselves, and pay the fee.. it is well worth it… IDA is a great site for all of us.. try and use the cities papers and find the classifieds sometimes!!! it costs a lot more to list something there and I haven’t been able to find the section for weeks!!
May 24, 2007 at 1:53 pm #574520James your replys are getting shorter and show a hint of terseness.More trouble than its worth?
May 24, 2007 at 2:30 pm #574542Some days it is harder to keeping smiling than others, that’s for sure.
But today is a great day. Despite the rain.
May 24, 2007 at 2:39 pm #574547I am all for the pay ads. I have never sold on IDA, but have bought. Never a problem. I cannot say that about EBAY… in fact, 2 weeks ago I bought a “hardly used” DeMarini softball bat, from a guy in Bullhead City, AZ. His “barely used” equates to “worn out, no pop, gopher beater” in my world. Oh well, I am out $64. When I buy stuff on IDA, I always get to meet the person, and see the item before buying. Plus all the items are Hunting/Fishing related, which I am always interested in !!! (do not mention the breast pump here) Look forward to the classifieds coming back, but not the real reason I come here, just an added perk !!!

Craigslist Sell free all day long. Hey, I agree. I come here for fishing info and not for classifides. I’m just saying the number of adds is going to drop = less chance of getting a deal or trying to find what you are looking for. I know you can use other sites to find stuff but it was nice to see just fishing gear and fishing gear that is specific for our region in one place.
pickeral_boyPosts: 162May 31, 2007 at 6:11 am #576597How many hits do we get on the site since the free ads have been stopped? One thing about the internet is that people expect it for free. I suppose the one time users that post things up on the site for sale will move along to another site. I have bought stuff through the site and found the transactions great. I did however buy from long time users which could be described as part of the IDA family and trusted them. When is it supposed to be up and running?
