Just purchased an 07 115 Etec. I have a 2002 17 ft Mr pike. On my old 2002 Johnson top speed was 46 mph. Now im only getting 39. I thought these motors were supposed to perform a little better?? Dealer told me before I bought it that it should push it close to 50, now they are saying well if your getting close to 40 thats pretty good! What a joke. Plus it overheats once in a while when i open it up. Its at the dealer now just looking for others with experience with ETECS.

If they told you close to 50mph just tell them that is why you bought the motor and if it can’t do that then they really need to make it hit that or they should take it back…RR

What prop do you have on it. 40 seems pretty slow and it should not get hot. You may want to have it looked at, something doesn’t sound right.

I bet it is not propped right, that makes a huge difference, how many rpm’s you at at full tilt, if the motor doensn’t rev up high enough or too high you will not get the speed you should. Should be somewhere around 56-5800rpms generally

I was pretty unhappy with my Etec as it did not seem as fast as my older motor and hole shots were not as good. This was with a new higher pitch prop. You should have your rig tached out to see if the motor is running in the correct RPM range. I also moved the motor up 1 notch on the transom for the lowest setting where the dealer mounted it with no problems. It took quite a while, but the motor seems to be running a lot better with more hole shot power, I do not think it is any faster. Someone suggested that this may be due to the rings seating. I am inclined to believe this, but it took several months before I started noticing a difference. You may not be willing to wait that long. I did not buy mine for speed, I bought it for less noise and fuel savings and my old motor was 9 years old.

I own a 75 E-Tec. I have had pretty good luck so far. It is rigged on a 16.5 foot lund explorer. Everyone who has fished with me are amazed at how quick it is to get out of the hole. So I have had good luck. Sorry I can’t be of more help. First thing I would check would be the prop – But if it’s over heating something is wrong.

Hey, if a dealership told me 47-50mph on a motor and the thing hit 39 you absolutly have a pretty good arguement to take it back IF they cannot find the problem. It does sound like prop to me also but losing 9-11mph is alot for a prop I would think…RR

I repowered my 1999 PrinceCraft with a 07 115hp E-tec last July. I had a 99 Ficht 115 on it both motors were propped to run a 5900 rpms at full throttle. The ficht gps at 40 the E-tec gps at 37.5 mph. Did you have your prior engine pulling the proper rpm’s Is the E-tec pulling 5900 to 6000 rpm per Bombardier spec’s? My ficht came from the dealer with an improperly pitched prop I was getting 4800 rpm’s at 44 MPH the mismatch caused the motor to work to hard and may of been the reason for a blown motor. The mechanic that fixed it said getting to the recommended rpm is very important. I lost 4 mph but the motor ran better after getting a better pitched prop and bring the rpm’s up to spec. THere is no comparison between the E-tec and Ficht on the hole shot. The E-tec is the hands down winner up on plane in a boat length. IT also can keep boat on plane at 16 to 18 mph whereas the Ficht had to go about 22 to stay on plane. In rough water the slower speed is a huge advantage plus it leaves more room throttling up or down to maintain control. I love the E-tec.

Well its still at the shop!! They said its overheating cause I had sand in it. That seems odd because it still had water coming out of the indicator. They tried some different props and were able to get it up to 42 mph. Sure seems like a long time to be at the shop to clean some sand out of it. Im going to have to post the name of the dealer if service doesnt improve real soon.
