My dad and I are building a new fishhouse from a camper shell…We have done alot of work on it so far and are to the point to decide what to put on the floor..I located some 1×1 stick on floor carpet that I think would work great(its very short mat)….or do I go with a vinyl floor…just woudering what you all think would work better the carpet or vinyl…thanks for any input…Jay

My guess would be to go with the carpet. The floor is going to get wet or have slush dumped on it and if it was covered with vinyl I could see that getting pretty slippery.

I think warmth is a concern too. I think carpeting would be warmer than vinyl.

But carpet will also hold water, which could be a concern with mold….i did the same thing a couple years ago, and didn’t put carpet in for that reason…just make sure and dry it well, and you should be ok

    RHINO LINE IT!!!!!!!!!

I used vinyl in my last one and it worked fine, it can get a little slick but didn’t really have a problem with it. IMO stay away from carpet unless its the green or blue indoor outdoor stuff (astro turf)

Indoor/Outdoor carpet, that you cut to size and can pull out at seasons end. Is the floor insulated ? If not, water/slush will be a concern whether you go with carpet/vinyl or rhino line it, as it will turn into a skating pond. Good luck

PS, get a squegee (sp?) and get as much off the floor, before you leave the house, whther it is carpet or whatever.

Cut some carpet pieces that will fit in your shack. When you get into the shack and drill the holes, squeegie the floor off, crank the heat and let the floor dry out. Then put down your carpet pieces. Ours are on a wood floor and don’t slip. Pick them up before you leave so you are ready to go for next time.

If I had to suggest something, I would use vinyl. If you use carpet it will soak up any water and hold it virtually the whole weekend you are fishing. If you use vinyl, you can keep a sawed off mop, wipe up the water, and the floor will be completly dry in minutes. So if you happen to have to hop out of bed for a fish at 4am, your socks will not get wet! my .02$
