I was just on my lunch break up here in Walker and I walked down by the docks on leech lake and saw a few crayfish so I caught a couple for the heck of it. I remember last year reading an article in the outdoor news about people eating these. I’m thinking I might put a minnow trap down there with some chicken liver in it to catch some and try eating them. If they don’t taste good I’ll use them for bait. Just wanted to know if any of you had eaten them before? I’ll try anything once….well almost anything.

You may want to check your Regs. Some of the crawfish are illegal to transport. I don’t recall at the moment which ones are, but I remember reading it a while back.

If you can get the entrail out of it they are just like a chicken textured shrimp. Boil them whole, they turn the coolest bright red color just like a lobster.

Man I haven’t had in in years… sorry where was I? I had to stop drooling. I went to camp in northern WI when I was younger, and once a year we would have a day where we, myself and about 15 kids, would get together and the concelors would let us catch as many crayfish as possible in an hour. Then we would help us boil them like baby lobsters. Haven’t had them in years and just the thought of that has me salivating (looking in every direction for nearest body of water)

Take everyones word for it, they are good eating. We pinched the tails off the body and then boiled them. It takes quite a few to make a meal and plus because if you don’t have enough you’ll want more. Just boil and peel after you have them on the plate, then dip in real butter. I don’t truely know which is better, crawfish or shrimp. Crawfish really are good eating and you’ll probably fix them again, i know i will.

Thanks guys for all of your info. Looks like I’ll be catching some more and cooking them up. I didn’t think this many people ate them but by sounds of it they must be pretty damn good!

We would catch them by the bucket full. Some cleaned tails would get dredged in flour and fried with the fish and other cleaned tails would get boiled and added to the cold noodle casserole just like baby shrimp.
