The mushrooms are here, I have been finding little gray ones for about a week. But today I went to the north slope and picked all I could carry out of the woods. The northside is the only slope with enough moisture for them to grow. So go get them they wont be around long unless we get some rain.

I found 5 little grays by the side of the house yesterday. We usually get about a dozen or so.

we picked quite q few yellow ones yesterday, and had a good time meeting “bigpike”, another IDA’r. Most of ours were on the east side of the hills.

early look on south sides later on the north and east hillsides with moisture, look for freshly dead elm trees where the bark is just starting to loosen up with a redish tint if the tree is white and bare it might be too far gone, if you see toadstools you usually won’t find morels.

Look for any dead wood where the spores can germinate. They will be anywhere, in the grass, pasture, woods but the best place to find them is where theres dead wood. Ive hunted mushrooms since i’ve been a kid and found them in places most would think they wouldn’t grow. Moisture and sun from the south where it warms up first is the best bet. As the season progresses its the top of hills and then the north side, it warms the slowest. If you have hills nearby check all those places working from the south of them to the north, its a good year and if there are any around your neck of the woods you should find some,,,good luck
