How big is a big lake trout? The reason I ask is if I get a big one this summer, I’d like to have it mounted, but I don’t want to end up having a smaller one mounted, then catch bigger ones every time I go.

It really depends on where you’re going fishing for them. On a smaller inland lake in N. MN, a 25 Lb laker would be a dandy while a 25 lber from Athabasca in Canada is a mere puppy. Where ya’ heading?

You are right James. My father had goals so high for mounting fish and game..( 8# for Bass), I still wouldn’t have one mounted today. I found out it takes 15 years for BASS to reach 4-5# up North. We fish lots more than average folks and look how hard it is to get a 30″+ Walleye.

If you catch a fish that is a memorable trophy to you…then it is worth mounting…better yet a replica mount, which looks absolutely real and lets that big girl swim away to make babies and fight another day!

I’m headed to Dogpaw lake near Sioux Narrows, I don’t have a downrigger, but one of the guys that goes with us last year had some luck catching them by finding fish on structure in about 60′ of water and dropping jigging spoons down.
