I bought a Maytag fridge almost a year ago. Someone told my boss that it is a good idea to purchase an extended warranty on new fridges because they have a new refridgerant in them that requires high pressure start ups and that the compressors can’t handle it very well. Anyone know anything about this?

Another potential problem with the new refrigerators is that the new oil that is used with the new refrigerant can not tolerate any water at all. If it is made correctly and all of the moisture is evacuated with a vacuum pump before it is charged it will work fine. Otherwise the oil will slowly clump up and clog the metering device on the frige.

With all of that being said I would purchase the extended waranty. If it last about 2-3 years without problems you should be in the clear, from my understanding when they go bad from moisture issues if will happen within the first year or two.
