A Finely Rigged Water Craft

This finely rigged water craft motored past me awhile back when I was fishing at Long Point in Pool 4. It is truly a work of creativity! I envied the captain for his adventurous spirit but wondered about the questionable construction and how far it would make it down the river.

Can’t be too insane, he’s out on the River with what appears to be a fishing pole hanging on a roof support. Meanwhile, I’m in my office recruiting people who don’t want to work for a living.

I guess this post is actually from the pool2curmudgeon, I just wonder what the final cost of the rescue-recovery will be when this finely rigged water crap breaks up? maybe playing games on some farm pond is ok but that river is no place to be risking your life or anyone else’s on something “make shift” like that. did I notice the craft seems to be licencend ( ? ! ) wow I spose you could get a floating log licenced too

Looks a little too much like something that made the news a few weeks ago. They found that body about 1 mile from my house. I agree w/ pool2 on this one….

what is that work in front of the arrow on the side of the “roof”….. is it SOUTH——> ??? perhaps he’s heading for the tip of South America? Around the horn?

It will be interesting to see how far south this nut makes it. I hope he is wearing his life jacket, it’s gonna be a fast ride in some of the lower pools with all this recent rain.

Hey guys………..I was just thinking about this some more and looked at the pic again. Logically, that craft won’t sink and it’s going to take a “whale” of a wave to capsize it.

We’re so used to “boat = dry” and “boat holds water” that we’ve really missed the durability of this craft. I don’t think you’d stay dry, but I’ll bet that “nut’s” craft is more sea worthy than my 1960 Richline!

I mean, when’s the last time you saw ANY cruisers wake flip a piece of plywood? He’s got a platform there…………….which is not easy to flip…………..and the wood will always float even if it gets submerged by a wave.

It ain’t pretty……………but I don’t think he’s in nearly the danger proclaimed……………outside of barge traffic or collisions, that is.

I think he will be fine as long as he doesn’t lite the tiki torch on a windy day.

I think the best part of the picture is the bumpers he has on the sides so the fine craft doesn’t get any scratches when at dock.

While I was away getting married, I guess a guy stopped at the resort with a homemade raft. He had two motors on it and the main one (20 hp) died on him. He stayed here a few days while the resort brought his motor to town and got it fixed for him. The guys here got a polaroid of the raft. It looks pretty nice compared to this one. The guy is from Fort Worth, Texas. He hauled it up here in two pieces as it was too big to haul down the road. It is 12 x 24. He said he is gonna do a “Huck Finn” trip and travel the Mississippi from Hastings, MN all the way to the gulf. Last I heard he called here and told me he was at Basscamp. He said he will keep us updated as to his whereabouts. Should be interesting.

This guy sounds like the old man (Alvin Strait (sp?)) who drove his John Deere tractor accross Iowa to reunite with his estranged brother. Great story – there is a beautiful movie about it called The Strait(sp?)Story. Sounds kinda lame but it really was a neat movie.

Last year this rig was tied up to the levy wall in Red Wing while there was something going on in town. So it looks like its been around for awhile. Thanks, Bill
