I’m looking for a third reciever to leave at the camper. We’ve been bringing our second unit up north every weekend, getting sick of connecting and disconnecting every weekend, half the time it never gets reconnected at home until the wife yells downstairs…”I want me TV”!

Does anyone know if the access card in my model# D10 will work in a Model# D11 as I can get a good deal on a D11??

    Will not work mate.
Cards are married to the recievers…. To prevent that very action. If you get the D11 you should be able to activate it on your account but will have to pay the extra 5 per month. Before you buy it, get the serial number and card number and make sure that they are clear and can be added to your account with out any problems.
    Good luck
    PM me with further questions.

I have three receivers with cards that are just gathering dust (we finally got cable with high-speed internet so by-by DirectTV). If you’re interested, send me a PM.

Ahh, I just tried inserting my d10 card into my dsx3535, didn’t work, tv said “please insert correct card”. So, I won’t be able to just swap cards out. That suks, but understandable.

King, don’t they cancel the card when you disconnect service? What I’m trying to get around is the $5 a month fee for a third reciever. I know it’s not alot of money but though I maybe could get around it, not looking like it though.

Like Larry said it’s not going to happen.

So either pay the extra 5 a month or continue to move the reciever back and forth.

    good Luck.

Yep, seems to be the case. I just got off the phone with DTV, I can get a used reciever/card form a third party and just pay the $5 a month. If I buy from them I have to pay a fee to start out then $5 a month. I think I’ll just keep moving my reciever.

    Thanks

If you get a couple quick disconnects for the cables it will make it easier then having to screw them in and out each time which is a real pain.

It is just $5 a month or 17 cents a day. It cost $8 just to go see a movie these days. Get the extra card and dish.

Thanks kooty. I better have a talk with the wife tonight about it.

Crappie, I realize it’s only $5 a month or 17 cents a day, you sound like a smooth talking sales guy. When we started out with the middle of the road programming, which isn’t exactly cheap, then have to have the outdoor channels, OLN, ect, there’s more money, then add a second reciever for the home, there’s more money, now add a third reciever, more money…see where I’m going with this?? Yes, it’s only $5 a month, but all these “only $5 a month” are truely adding up, a guy has to stop somewhere. Where to stop is the question…

You should take a peek at dish network. I sell and install systems. They beat Direct TV on programming costs and their equipment.
I had both for a long time… Finally ditched Direct last year for good.

We’ve researched it a few times, unless we’re missing something the price is the same. If we stayed with the middle package we would lose some channels we watch and gain channels we would never watch. The debate between which is better is always split, both have plus and minus. I like my programming now, I have all my sports channels and locals, don’t need to lose or gain anything. If the price isn’t cheaper, no switch for us. Am I missing something?

depends on how many tvs you have and if you want HD or DVR services.
Dish will give you 2tvs for the price of 1 or 4tvs for the price of 2. Catch is you need to plug them into a phone line
typically Dish programming a little less expensive but your right when comparing channels some of the ones people want are usually in the higher tier.

if I recall, weren’t you the guy saying on the high price gas thread that the extra $20 per trip in gas would not have you changing your habits? It was all about family, your not the only one watching TV. So what’s an extra $5 per month? Thats just cheese on your burger.

Never once said it wouldn’t change my habits, I said it wouldn’t change my trips up north. Infact I beleive I mentioned changing habits such as buying bait, picking crawlers, burgers vs, porterhouse, etc. Is that not changing habits?? Fishing/family is a heck of alot more important to me than television. Did you read the entire thread about gas prices? I beleive I also mentioned ways to offset the price of gasoline, maybe, just maybe this fits in that category?? That extra $60 a year in television is a extra tank of fuel in my boat for the season, make sense? Kind of goes hand in hand with the whole “ways to offset the cost of gas” doesn’t it? Just because I won’t let the price of gas effect my fishing time doesn’t mean I won’t look for ways to offset it. Perfect example right here!!

Oh, and thanks for the great input, very helpful??

maybe you didn’t read my small tidbit about just cheese on those burgers! By cutting out cheese on your burgers you can easily save that $5 per month, and still have your TV. And on top of that my lips get tired of reading long posts, I just seem to focus on numbers and I just saw this as being kind of amusing. Sorry that I have such a simple mind. But hey, spend your money the way you want.

Since your a numbers person maybe you could help me out some more? Your, cut cheese out of the meal plan idea was brilliant, why didn’t I think of it? But, a 16 serving pack of cheese is only $4.19. I only eat 4 burgers a month, taking the cheese off at .26 per slice is only saving me $1.04. This still leaves $3.96 to shave off the monthly bills before I can afford the 3rd satellite reciever. Where could I cut other costs? Thanks in advance.

With as helpful as you’ve been on this subject I feel there’s some way I should repay you. You mentioned your lips easily tire…My neighbor and his life partner recently split, I’m sure he’d be willing to show you a few lip exercises and let you practice those newly learned techniques

I hope you feel better now! I don’t think I could ever go as low and call someone out on a public forum implying that he/she is gay. I already admitted to my small mind, I’m begining to wonder who’s is smaller. Or maybe you have a problem with gay people? Regardless, back to your point just keep unhooking your receiver every time and put the cheese on your burgers and your families also=$5, keeps everyone happy.

    Hey Mates,
This thread was about satellite TV and pricing.
I’m trying to see how other threads relate to this thread in any manner…… They don’t, and this has been hijacked.
The beauty of forums is that we can express our ideas, thoughts and open up topics up for discussion ON THAT PARTICULAR THREAD.
Let’s not take cheap shots at each other trying to compare apples to oranges on completely unrelated topics.
IDA apprecaites both of your inputs on a variety of topics.
    thanks for your understanding.

    I got a great idea, Birddog…
Just let chomps practice some of those lip exercises, pimp him out–and pay for all of us to have satellite!
Of course, one may have to change the marketing strategy… with a name like chomps?!?

    Cut and dry, straight forward!

There was good conversation going on with straight forwards answers to questions. Guys offer up their receivers, good stuff, good guys! My questions had been answered, I have 2 choices, buy a receiver or keep moving mine back and forth, simple, straight forward. Thanks to the guys that stuck to the topic and gave the info.

Then along comes a hijack with a bunch of bs! Your help was totally worthless and filled with sarcasm. I explain myself to you with honest type, why I don’t know, and you come back with another worthless comment about more cheese. Being your a financial planner I hope you give your paying customers better advice than that. With the worthless advice you gave me, I gave you some worthless advice back. Didn’t call anyone “gay” or imply anyone was either, except the guy up the road who’s not hiding in the closet, just trying to help you out with your tired lips like you helped me out with cheese.

Thanks to everyone else who gave sound advice. Putting it to bed now!

So do you guys like DirectTV? My cable bill went up to $100 and I am looking into DirectTV. Is it better than cable? Are there signal problems? Bottem line, is it worth switching over?

    IMO probably not.

I have Direct TV and often use my Dish and Satellite receiver in other locations so that works for me.

Depending on how many TV’s you need in your house and what movie channels you want you’ll pay about the same as cable.

Dish network usually has a better deal on the number of recievers and programming. Than DirctTv. Check them out on line and I’ll be glad to answer any other questions you might have. Send me a PM.
