I have started playing Texas Holdem at the MN Card Club (Cantebury). When I talk to people about it, it seems that most people are pretty interested.

Just wondering how many fisherman cross over like I do. Playing poker is all I need-another hobby when I dont have enough time already

I love playing Holdem, the hobby aspect of it doesn’t bother me so much as the prospect of losing the bait money!

Have you guys been watching the poker tourneys on the Travel channel , ESPN or ESPN2? Interesting and entertaining viewing.

I watched the World Poker Tour last night on Travel Channel, but it was a rerun. Still entertaining, though. You can learn alot (cheaply) from watching those guys. I actually have a buddy who plays online, and he came VERY close to getting an invitation to one of the tournaments.

I love watching on TV and playing live. Online is OK, but I havent done that for cash yet and dont know if I will.

It is a total mental challenge-not as much of a gambling feel as blackjack or others.

I saw them play last night too. I’ve heard of Texas holdem but never knew how to play until last night. Pretty interesting.

I to have been watching it on the travel channel, like someone previously said, “just what I need another hobby”.
I’ve always had a fever for cards, especially poker. That’s why I limit myself to just a couple poker games a year. I believe I would get hooked.

It’s been entertaining watching those games on TV. I first got into texas hold ’em by watching the World Series of Poker on ESPN. There are a couple of websites out there that talk nothing but poker:
    Texas Hold ‘Em
    Phil Helmuth’s Poker Page
The second site is Phil Hellmuth’s website, he’s a former winner of the WSOP.
It’s a fun game, and I have the CD Rom version of it on my home PC. Picked it up for $7.00 at Target.

I try to limit my gambling to my fishing. I put all this money up front [ boat, motors, trailer, electronics, tons of fishing gear, gas, tow vehicle, etc. ] ”betting” that I’m going to catch fish. So far I’m winning but I when I look at how expensive those Casinos look I get the feeling that ”they” are the ones ”winning” and not us. So I’ll stick to fishing instead of cards as I have a much better chance of winning. Thanks, Bill

My neighborhood (on a lake) has a winter time poker “tour” where we meet 1-2 times monthly when the water is too hard to cast lures through. We keep it pretty cheap, but it is competitive and fun to pass the cabin fever away. I also love watching it on tv- those stacks of chips are unreal- think of all the gadgets you could put on your boatssss with that ca$h.

I play at the Canterbury no-limit hold em tournament every month. It takes place on the first Sunday of each month. Last Sunday they had the most players ever at around 270 with a first place payout of over $6,000. Needless to say, I didn’t finish at the final table, but I did end up winning $500 playing at a limit table after I was bumped out of the tourney. It’s a good time, but beginner’s beware….

Remind me never to play with you!!! I’ll stick to the ponies at Canterbury. There I know a little bit. In the winter we have monthly games, but keep it small.

There is also a smaller tourney every Sunday. $12 per person limited to 90 people (just over $1000 collected). They winner gets $2000. They “give” you like $900 in chips to play with and it is 30/60 limit Holdem.
