How about all this rain and warm weather coming up, think they’ll pop, I do. The lilacs here are going to bloom in the next week and were supposed to get 70,s and 80,s by then too. Mushroom huntings just around the corner.

Make sure were all using mesh bags so the spores can be spread around to make lots more of the scrumcious buggers.
All the years my mom and dad used plastic bags and buckets and we wondered why the mushrooms disappeared after a while. Chippman

Talked to a friend of mine this afternoon and he found some small greys yesterday. They were all small and said with the upcoming weather this weekend and next week they should be up and a good time to go, we’ve both hunting them since we were kids. Were going in the next few days and i’ll post my results.

might just go scouting around tonight, have to get the boat wet to make sure the water pump I put in last fall was done correctly, maybe go after some crappie and go into the woods to see if anything is starting to pop. I know I’ll be on private grounds on Sunday afternoon, things will surely be in full swing around Sioux City the middle of next week, even the hills should be going well. I’ll get some pictures up if I can figure out how.

The little grays are just starting here in eastern Iowa, my buddy found about 3/4 of a gallon icecream bucket full, a lot of walking involved. A little warm weather and they should be out in full force!

You guys might not believe this..I am wayyyyyy north of you dudes and I found my first morel on Friday!!! I think it was more of a fluke though. it was growing in some serious sunshine on a hill facing dew south. It was the only one I found and I looked under all the dead elms thinking maybe I would find a bunch but nothing yet. This one was out by his lonesome mixed in a bunch of other trees—-NOT ELMS. kinda wierd Anyway, surprisingly, it was a yellow and it was about 3″ tall..

I went out and got some exercise yesterday, went to some of the areas which I have had some luck before. Found one right off the bat and thought it would be a good day, well that was the last one. Tried another area, looked to be about a week before things get going there, usually go by how far along the bleeding hearts are. They were up, but not blossoming, when they blossom, the ground temp is just right for morels. Wanted to get out on the mighty Mo. trouble is the landing on the Iowa side is silted shut, and the Nebraska side had trailers parked all over the place. Much too crowded for my taste, did get to see a bikini clad young lady scamper across the parking lot struggling with a cooler, that mede my day.

I’m starting to think its the lack of rain that is keeping the morels from popping..I can’t believe you guys aren’t finding them down there..I found 5 just today on my way home from fishing! they were average sized yellows on a due south slope under a dead elm. I checked some of my normal “Jackpot” areas after finding those morels with some confidence going at that point, but nothing under those elms! I think we need more rain.

Neighbor lady stopped last night and she had about half an ice cream pail full of little grays. She also stated we need rain to get them going. I’m about 35 miles s.e. of Rochester.

One of my customers in Iowa picked a bunch last weekend. Lots of small ones and some nice. I think we are a couple weeks out.

I’ve seen two signs in the last two days that were selling mushrooms @ $30 a pound. I’ve been two busy to go but plan on going in the next few days.
