Tilt/trim problem

When I turned off my vacuum earlier today, I noticed that the tilt/trim was engaged in the down position. Pressing the up button on the motor causes it to stop but does not bring the motor up. I had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop. As soon as I hook the battery up, the tilt/trim engages. Has anybody experienced this? Do I have a short in one of the wires? Any suggestions would be greatly apprecieated.

I have a buddy who had a similar problem with his 225 Merc. He solved his problem by removing the cover from the motor and disconnecting the switch. I have a 90 Honda 4 stroke and don’t see a way to disconnect it at the motor.

No experience with Honda, but I know a friend who had this problem on the water last year with his older Evinrude. On his it turned out to be a relay switch under the cowling.
