    Hello –

I have had my E-TEC motor for 3 years now. However, I am going to take it in for the 3 year check up. I talked to a mechanic because it seems like when I put the motor in gear it is too fast for trolling. He said usually the factory settings are recommended for trolling speed. Right now I have the factory settings – Not sure how many RPM’s it is but I am wondering if anyone has adjusted their E-TEC and if so to what RPM’s. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

i cannot help with your question but try this website bassboatcentral.com – post your question under the evinrude forum and include your model# and serial# – someone there should be able to answer your question

I have no idea where they are on Etec’s.. its usually not too hard to find. Most of the time, the motors are set pretty much at minimum rpm’s where you shouldnt have to deal with stalling.

I dont think a bass boat site is going to give you much info on trolling!

Often times, to get a slower trolling speed, you will have to go with a lesser pitch prop, drag a drift sock, or get aftermarket motor products. Some people even put the bow mount down and leave it in reverse.

If its a tiller, I dont know if evinrude still puts the idlespeed screw where the tiller meets the cowling(doubt it), if its remote, I have no idea(havent owned one in a long time)

I have been told the DEALER must do this with the diagnostic tool they use. I had mine done when it was in for warranty work.

This is not something the shade tree mechanic can do.
It is done on the computer.
I have mine down to I think 500. Maybe it is 6. I bought mine in Feb 05. 350 hours and going strong.

Chad I do not have an answer for you. What HP is your E-TEC? To Slow my boat down to trolling speeds I bought a Yamaha T8
I do have a couple of five gallon buckets I will sell you, they are the next best thing to a kicker motor.
In all seriousness two 5 gallon buckets pulled behind the back of the boat on both sides of the boat is quite effective.

There does seems to be a pretty good page on evinrudes on this site. I thought the RPMS where supposed to get down to around 500. That was what I was told for a 75hp. For some reason mine seems to only get down to 1000 now.
