My son and I got a chance to spend the afternoon in the boat together on Sunday. With this nice warm weather, the crappies were in their traditional spring locations, and very willing to eat. We set up very shallow and my son got the chance to experience first hand what a great spring time crappie bite is like, not to mention that he also got to learn about CPR. He wasted no time telling me that he was going to have a fish fry tonight, after catching his 2nd fish. We must have lost 20-30 fish this day, but it was the most fun I have had,… not catching fish myself. I was only there to refresh minnows and take fish off. It was a long debate when we started to release fish. I told him that he could keep 5 fish for dinner and we had to put the rest back, lets just say he was not so happy with Dad, but that soon changed when we started getting doubles and all he had to do was jump from rod to rod and reel them in. After about 2 hours he looks up at me in the middle of fighting a fish and says “lets go home Daddy”. We took that fish off and we were done for the day, fishing that is. I think what he really wanted to do was drive the boat, which I was more then happy to let him do. We shot around the lake for about 1/2 hour and off the lake we went. I have been looking forward to a day like this with my son, from the day he was born. Word can’t describe how I feel about spending this kind of quality time with my kids, all I can say is….Thanks Alex! Daddy loves you, and I can’t wait to do it again.

    Bob,

It won’t be long until you’ll be hearing “what I’d really
like Dad is to borrow the boat keys, see ya later can I
    have them please”!!
Great report and good work on the conservation lesson.

Wow Bob, those are some nice looking slabs. The look on your son’s face is priceless. I too am in the same situation with my 5 year old. Trying to teach CPR is a difficult thing when they are that age. I am starting to think that after this ice season my son is starting to get it. I also agree there is nothing quite like a great day fishing with your kids. Great job
