I purchased a kids rod and reel combo over the weekend for my son who is 2-1/2. And of course like most things it has a right handed crank and my son like me is Left handed.

I showed him once how to reel it and he picked it up right away and started doing it. But he was having trouble and keeps trying to switch it to reel with his left hand.

My question is has anyone ever seen a left handed kids reel.

I know I could probably get him a short medium action rod and a Zebco 33 style reel that has the handle on the left.

But the kids combo is the perfect length about 3′ and wieght.

Let me know if anyone knows where I can get something.

    Thanks,
    Chris

Most spin cast reels, the handles can be unscrewed and put on the other side.

In support of what Chris just said, I know that Shakespeare offers a couple of smaller sized spincast (closed face) reels that allow you to switch hands. I believe these reels are right around $15-20 dollars and available at most sporting goods retailers, including the department stores. The smaller offering will help with hand size and overall weight. If a Zebco is desired, they have the 11 series with L/R side retrieve too.

    Happy Fishing!
