Pretty good article by Ron Schara in today’s Star Tribune… I think we can all relate!

Good article. This could link well to the need for boaters safety training before they pull away with a new purchase.

Note to boaters who use Lakefront Park launch in Hudson.
After removing boat, please tie down in the tie-down area! Not in front of the ramps. This has happened to me twice now on recent trips.
In this day and age of increased boat traffic, is there anything worse than a knob who preps his boat at the dock???
I just read the paper, wow. I was watching dingaling on Sunday at Waconia. Like Ron said, I swore a few times, just not loud enough for anyone to hear. I would have offered help, but there isn’t much you can do when your by yourself in the boat. The poor guy had to park his truck while 4 able body people held the boat at the dock right in front of the launch. Then he gets turned around by the wind and somehow managed to careen off a sailboat the dock a couple times before he was safely away. I guess I should have offered to tow him out to “safe” water……
ohhhh that guys name is dingaling? hmmmmm guess I shortened it a bit…. and gave him a first and last name…. with initials the same as …. lets say…. Dumb Fish……. Im pretty patient too… after all Im an angler… and most of us have loads of patience.. afterall it kind of goes with the territory… but I admit my patience goes farther for the fish then for guys like that….. and yep… Ive had guys cut inside of where I was fishing… even though I was waving and shouting for them NOT to…. since it was a shallow wingdam inside of me… and they destroyed their lower units on it… ahhh well… some guys just wont listen… the first time anyway… after that they usually do a better job….
every year we see examples of boat launching and loading, that would make the top ten all time list. most all of us get out there and help them whenever its possible. those people will learn by watching and listening. maybe some boat manufacturer could write a short pamphlet to hand out with each new boat purchase, maybe the state dnr could do it and make them available to dealers. But then new owners would have to read and heed. Jack.
I just hope we get through this next week without boating fatalities… two years in a row we have had people killed on the Croix in boating collisions (both on July 3rd I think!)….. last year it was someone I knew…. there is nothing really wrong with a little commedy at the landing…. but there is something terribly wrong with tragedy on the water….. I hope there WILL be increased efforts to control “dangerous” activity on the water….
I loved Ron’s article – It was long overdue. I still can’t believe that “Dingaling” wasn’t even smart enough to take the tarp off his boat before launching it! Hope you all have a very safe and enjoyable holiday weekend.
Mr. Breeze
I have seen plenty of Dingalings around. I hope I dont see one put the truck in nuetral and back the whole truck in to the lake. I am also waiting for the day when I am waiting for a guy and he forgot his boat plug at home and you see a truck and trailor but no boat. Some day I will probably forget to put the parking brake on or put my plug in. Everybody thinks to hard and forgets something, we all make mistakes. BUT forgeting to take the strap off! Oh man he must have had something else on his mind. And some day I will make that mistake cause I am usually really exited to go catch some fish.
When I saw the title of this thread I thought for sure Jon must be trying to get ahold of me. I have had a few dingaling problems lately. My Blazer for some reason doesn’t like to get or stay in park I’ve found out so it can take a couple of minutes to get the truck to stay still in park and not slide down the ramp. During the PWT week in June I was taking my boat out at Colvil Park and had backed the trailer down the ramp, got it to stay in place on the ramp, went and drove the boat on the trailer and then the truck starts sliding backwards. Well I end up starting the motor back up drove the boat forward to push the truck forward and hold it there till someone else came to take out and asked them if they would hop in my truck and pull me out. The guy was a Pro from Nebraska and was very nice to help me out of my situation. So next time you are pissed off about some dingaling at the ramp, just picture in your mind the situation I was in and have a good chuckle. It will make waiting for the guy to get out of your way seem much better. Thanks, Bill
[ps. being able to laugh at yourself makes things go alot better some days. lol.]
Seem’s to me I seen someone lock there key’s in there vechile while unloading there boat. I think this was at baypoint during a tourney, I think it was last Nov. But I won’t mention any name’s
In a way it can make fishing alot more funny at times
There apparently was a near fight this weekend in Harper’s- somebody pulled his trailer ahead of another guy Saturday. Combine hot weather, dehydration and some barley and hops in addition to little common sense and bad things can happen.
I “dingalinged” tonight. Took the kids out tubing, but when I got the boat in the water, the battery was dead.
Quick switch to the trolling motor battery fixed things right up, and we were on our way… Thank you Leatherman!
I guess it was worse than dingaling on ‘tonka this weekend… a couple of guys got mad at another boater, so they threw him out of his boat and ran over him….. yep… killed him…. they are calling it boat rage? what the heck… dont we do this stuff to relax and have fun? Im putting a smile on my face and keeping it glued there no matter what…… the water needs to be a happy place…. not a crabby or “raged” filled one…..
I was hoping that you were kidding.

You’re not. Just sick… Then this:
Quote:
Police say large, uncooperative crowds hampered the rescue and recovery efforts. Many boaters didn’t want to lose their spot to watch fireworks.
What the hell is wrong with people?
I wish they would call this “Drunken Rage” rather than “Boat Rage”.

Sad indeed Gianni! I saw the story on the news while visiting my folks and we were all pretty disappointed in humanity……….
What’s wrong with people? Good question……….
We could speak of Biblical application…………..we could blame the indoctrination of self-sufficing humanitarianism…………..the degradation of the American community………..the forgotten wisdom and principles established by our forefathers……………….this list could stretch from my house to yours if we looked for everyone’s reason. I think it’s combination of many things…………myself…………but it doesn’t make me feel any better about the stupidity of this story.
The part of the newscast that really had me rubbing my chin is that it sounded like there was no one around to vouch for the victim’s part in the incident. Everyone who knew him (that was interviewed) stated that looking for trouble or starting a fight would be very out of character for this guy. No matter who started what……………..it’s an absolute tragedy and a well defined black mark on humanity.
I avoided the waters this weekend like they were poisoned and spent some time getting reacquainted with some distant relatives that had come to visit my parents (and riding dad’s motorcycle!!!). Speaking of, that 800 twin was ultra smooth in the grips and seat but vibrated the foot pegs enough for me to think……….”now how would this feel next to a V65?” My guess is that I’d stay with your V65 too! Still better than a hog IMHO though.
On a very busy traffic day on the lake last week I had to drive in front of a woman driving the Titanic at warp speed pulling a young girl intertubing to prevent her from turning my sister (who was waiting to be pulled by my boat skiing) into fish food. The “spotter” (the person who watches the person being pulled to see if the fall off) is the one who turned her head to see me speeding head-on torwards their boat. The driver had her head turned backwards to watch the girl in the tube. When the paniced spotter made the driver aware that we were about to collide the driver swerved…which sent the tube about 3 feet from me…and then she had to swerve again to miss another boat that was not moving…which sent the tube about 3 feet from them. She never even slowed down! We got off the water…it was getting too crazy out there.
Good call Newt!!! Do you suppose the person on the tube was a little nervous?
I’m sure the poor kid in the tube had to have her hands pried from the handles when the boat eventually stopped. We never saw them in this bay again. Hopefully the sign language that myself and the other boater used sent her the right message.
Hey O.M.F.T. , anyone I know? LOL. Thats what happens when the drivers side door doesn’t open from the outside and it accidently gets locked when your partner gets out of the vehicle to unfasten the wrinch strap and you forget to tell him to not let the door shut. Thanks, Bill
