Being pretty new to the state, I was just wondering what everyone’s favorite panfish and/or crappie rig is. Does anyone stay with late season ice-type rigs (small jigs w/waxie or euro) or something totally different?

First of all, Welcome. Great to have you with us. Please feel free to share and post all you want. Also if you scroll down to where you see different States logos [shape of the state] and click on them they will take you to different forums within each state. Ice fishing jigs with a waxie or small minnow will work fine or a Mini-Mite with a waxie or small minnow works good too. To find a place to buy Mini-Mites if your local area doesn’t have them you can click on the ”Hooked On Fishing” words in my signature which is a link that will take you to their website. I will use these Mini-Mites till ice up in southern Minnesota under a float [bobber] in shallow water or free line them [jig] in deeper water with a small splitshot about 6-12” above the jig/plastic. These lures have a long skinny tail that bobs up and down with the slightest movement which is great for attracting fish.

    Thanks, Bill

I like to use a small tube jig or ice jigs with wax worms or minnows. Green and black work good for me.

My favorite is the smallest berkeley power tube in white on a 1/32 oz pink jig rigged about 24″ under a small float. Fished over and around any shallow weedgrowth that made it through the winter.

I’m about a week away from giving this a whirl up north!

I’m a huge fan of puddle jumpers on a 1/32 or 1/16 jig under a float. It’s nice not worrying about live bait.
