Headed up to the river early Tuesday morning. We got on the water around 7:00 a.m. at Birchdale. Headed down river just as everyone else has. The weather was wonderful, sun shining and great hopes for fish. We did pretty good jigging. That is all we tried was a jig and minnow, and jig and gulp. Colors were glow, pink and a gold jig. The gulp caught bigger fish. The day was beautiful and we caught just over 80 walleyes for 2 guys. We did manage to get two 27in, two 25 1/2in, and a 25in. There were a few people sturgeon fishing and they were doing all right from what I saw. When we left for the night we looked at Frontier access and it was still iced in but had open water spots past the access. On wednesday morning we headed out again, but was surprised to see that Frontier was open. There is still shore ice or was shore ice, never checked when we left today, sorry. There was smaller boats launching, but we had a larger boat so had to go to Birchdale again and head all the way down river. Many people headed past Frontier so we just stayed at the same spot as the previous day with the same presentation. Started fishing around 8:00 and fished till 1:30 got 40 between the two of us. No big ones today, but the fishing is turning on well. Many fish 15-18 inches and looking good. Good luck to all those that are going up fishing. Of course the wardens are out in full force so please make sure everything is O.K. so they don’t ruin a great trip.
