Students to Mille Lacs

Time to start planning my second annual student trip to Mille Lacs! Last year I took 28 middle school students for a day trip to Mille Lacs on our schools activity day. At our school each staff member signs up to organize an activity and students can sign up for what they want to participate in.
Last year on my trip each student got lunch and a door prize (fishing tackle) along with 4 hours of fishing. As you can probable guess this got a little expensive. I am once again trying to keep the cost down for the students so I am looking for any donations to our activity. This could include tackle, food, beverages, or monetary donations.
This is a really good experience for the kids, last year only a few students from the trip had ever even been on a boat besides fished the big pond. My goal is to keep the fee under $20 this year. If anyone can help out please let me know, my school is in Bloomington and I live in Hastings so I can pick up donations from almost anywhere in the Metro. I can also give receipts on monetary donations for tax purposes. If you can help we would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks
    Bobby Miller

If you check with some of the retailers like Gander etc. they are usually willing to donate some stuff for things like this. The worst they can say is no.Also getting the kids involved like collecting alum cans (wich are worth quite a bit right now)can add up quick.

    Thanks Sauger
June 5th is the date, keep your calendar open. It would be nice to have a few extra people to tie lines and bait hooks. 30 middle schoolers can be hard to keep up with.

    P.S.
Wild and Twins tonight were do you plan on watching?

I would also suggest calling up a few local sporting goods stores. When I worked at a sporting goods shop we always had a couple boxes of promo stuff sitting in back. The manufacturers want it out there getting used.

I went on an annual launch trip to Mille Lacs every year that I was in HS. Although I am used to being in my own boat and fishing more aggressively, I had a great time on those trips. It was always fun to watch people learning how to fish and spending time with some people outside my usual friends. We went out of Scenic Bay and always caught fish.

[censored] helped out last year and I plan on contacting them again this year. I will try Gander as well. If anyone else has some small things laying around that would be great.
    Thanks for the ideas guys
    Keep ’em coming

    Thanks

Put an apostrophe in there and you won’t get the “[censored]” Line..Dick’s Sporting Goods

Great Idea by the way. I wish I could send a donation, but most of all, I wish our schools would do something like this!!
(We had a program called riverpod which was awesome!! But a fishing trip would be awesome! )

    Bobby,
Can I go? Can I go? Can I go? Worked at Valley View Middle School for 2 years and live in east Bloomington. Hauling up walleyes is almost as much fun as keeping 13 year olds from pitching someone over the side.
Want to know about me? Ask Kuhns. He knows me from summer blast. He hired me in the summer so I could have some money for minnows and gas. Might know some of your kids. I’ve coached BAA hockey, soccer and basketball for over 30 years.

If Jack is asking if he can spin circles around your boat to show off his black motor, just say no.

My fishing club every year takes about 25 kids mostly from single parent families up to Mille Lacs. It is always a great time. We rent a big airconditioned bus, supply a good lunch from VonHansen’s, and use Eddy’s launches. And we pick up the entire tab. Some of these kid’s very first fish is a 5lb Walleye.

Good luck with your day on the water.

No, actually, I want to get his contact information so I can pass it on to the people at Pure Fishing. They are really good about supporting things like this.

    Thanks for your help Jack.
My students would probably enjoy being circled by a boat. Last year kids would all jump at the same time to get water to come over the front of the boat, easily amused I guess
