What are the rest of you guys that are running diesels adding to your fuel for added lubricity? I have heard anything from over the counter additive to tranny fluid to drip oil. What are you guys do’n?

I had a teacher in school who always used marvel mystery oil in his diesel. He said before he started using it the engine would run rough and start rough.

There just isn’t enough good things to say or use Marvel Mystery Oil for……..In my opinion, it is just as important in the garage as WD-40.

I just put in diesel from a fairly busy station and run it. I’d be interested to know how many people add stuff to their diesel. I just got my first rattler a month ago so I’m new to the diesel experience.

Do you guys add oil to the diesel on a regular basis or only when you are having problems???

Call any Diesel sales/repair facility, and ask about Stanadyne.

I don’t think you need to put additives in pickups. Maybe something in the winter but I haven’t even ever done that and plow snow with them too. Never had a fuel related problem.(knock on wood)

I have had mine for over 3 years and never added anything to the fuel….I just try to use stations that are busy or truck stop type stations so I know they go through a lot of diesel and it is fresh and hasn’t been sitting in an underground tank for 6+ months.

Stanadyne, helps keep the injectors clean, but is great for a winter additive, which prevents gel issues. Vehicles today, have preheaters and such to help this issue too. I guess the customers that I have that swear by it, work the sh1t out of their trucks everyday, pulling travel trailers from Indiana to Canada, day in and out. ZIPS diesel in St Cloud, also recommends the stuff, to minimize black start up smoke.

I like to run PowerService. I too haven’t had any fuel related problems (knock on wood). They say the new diesel 15ppm is more abrassive I guess. Sure wish it were cheaper. The ol ford took 89 dollars to fill today. I still had a 1/4 tank left.

additives wont hurt but arent needed. newer diesels are made for low sulfer fuel. we should actually see less fuel egr problems with them running cleaner

Find a cen pe co dealer around. They have some great fuel additive. That is what we are using. Have a 6 liter stroker and a 7.3 liter stroker

I have 6 diesels and I dont use any addative. No problems as of yet fuel related but they just recently changed the sulfer content so well see what happens. The newer motors 2007 and newer are set up for the new diesel already the older ones will be a trial and error I think. I am not planning on adding any thing in the near future unless problems start to occur. Lets hope all works well

I’m not a big fan of fuel additives although I know of a few that are proven in diesel engines such as Power Service and Stanodyne. That said be ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that if your running a new ULSD powered diesel that you do NOT add the same additives you used in your older diesels unless the label very clearly states it is ULSD compatible. You WILL create problems with NO exceptions. Not only is using additives not labeled for use with ULSD illegal it will cause performance and reliability problems with the trucks emissions system that the manufacturer will not cover under warranty.

Is soy-diesel, or a soy additive available near you? Isn’t that one of the advantages to using it? Maybe check with a local farm co-op or bulk fuel station

I’ve never used additives, but be sure to read your owner’s manual first. I believe mine says to not use any that contain alcohols.

’06 Duramax. Had an ’03 but traded up with the good deals they were having last summer and got the newer engine/tranny to boot. I also saw pictures of the ’07s last summer (which are hideous) and heard about the new emissions garbage that was coming so I wanted to get one without all that stuff so I jumped on the ’06. No problems with this one so far and the ’03 was perfect as well.
