I have been using 3M’s Ultrathon Bug Spray and have found great results.

So what do you use ?

I usually use OFF! and it seems to work pretty well. If it’s after dark I also carry a kerosene lantern filled with citronella oil and burn that nearby.

Last summer I went on a canoe trip down the Bloodvein River in Canada. The bugs were horrendous. I had some Repel 100 which is 95% DEET – I was told the more DEET the better and it works great on the bugs but it will completely destroy anything plastic. I had a fiberglass paddle with a foam rubber grip – the DEET melted the foam rubber grip in about 5 minutes. The DEET even did a number on my watch. Look out for that stuff once you get it on your hands because everything you touch will have some kind of weird reaction.

If you go on a trip like that, I highly recommend a bug suit. It includes the head net, a bug jacket and bug suit pants. I got one at Gander Mountain before we left, it didn’t cost much at all ($25?), money well spent. I lived in the thing and it worked great. It stores in its own little pouch, weighs next to nothing, and stores away easily. You may never take it off.

Doesn’t do much for us fellas but for the feminine readers of the board, the original Avon “Skin So Soft” is one of the best mosquito repellents I’ve ever witnessed! While I tussled and bothered with the sprays and oils…………..all the ladies went completely unbothered! Can’t explain it………….but seein’ was believin’!

Avon does have an excellent product. We use it on our 1 yr old and it works fabulous. If there is anyone out there looking for a repellant for the family I would suggest this.

Must only work on the good looking people because my wife had me try that stuff once and it didn’t work at all.

I have heard that ugly people are immune to that stuff

I usually just pick up what ever is on sale, that stuff gets expensive when you have a skeeter investation like Everts has this year.

Dave, the woman who “started that demonstration” all those years ago told us to make sure we were getting the the “REAL” Avon Skin so Soft. She mentioned that it had been tied into another product or brand under the same name and that it didn’t work for beans. I’m guessing you’d have to get it from an Avon distributor who knows what the “original” stuff is. She said it had to be the original and really stressed it because the other “Skin So Soft” wasn’t worth the bottle it came in.

Don’t know if this was your experience or not Dave, just sharing the information that was passed on to us……….and I witnessed that stuff working far better than anything I had for 3 days straight.

I just sit somewhere close to but slightly upwind ( ) of Dustin. The flies act like they don’t even know I’m there and just swarm Stewart. Not to mention… oh wait, you wanted to know about mosquitoes. Sorry, I’m of no help in that case.

Hey James I didn’t even know anyone else could see that cloud around me, just thought it was my vision . I guess I’ll have to change my user name to PigPen
