If you have not been up to see Dean @ Everts lately you may be missing out on some of the best fishing to be had, I was out on pool 4 all day fished way down river caught several nice walleyes only to turn em loose , boy what fun I had, I kept my limit of male saugers 18-20 in which I will enjoy today at lunch with a cold one, now back to my story, what was working great for me was snap jigging chartreuse hair jigs in 10 0r less ft of water, no the boat did not scare them in fact I caught about an 8lb in four feet under the boat, also, I was casting the eigth ounce bk jig with a new ring worm I had made, I call the watermelon rind, Ive got several models and colors, stop in and see Dean he will put you on fish garunteed, the fish are biting about any moving target, please release those big saugers and walleyes, let them spawn so our grand kids can have a chance too, Im seeing more people doing this, but I also saw a few guys keeping everything including a few big saugers over 24 and a walleye, please do remember it is beacause of us sportsmen that do release those bigger fish and then to see someone keep one it really flustrates us that are trying to improve the future, I am sure there are others that fits my shoes on these touchy subjects, anyways get out there and have some fun, get in real close to the bank, good luck and good fishin.Ranger Walleye

Don’t automatically assume that a boxed up fish is going to get the knife. Lots of guys, (me included) will box up big fish for a photo later. Also, lot of fun wagering between groups of guys for big fish of the day. That kind of stuff where the fish goes back later in the day. And don’t forget the tourneys just about every weekend from here on out!

Jon, What additional precautions if any do you take to assure a fish intended to return stay healthy while in the livewell? I know there are chemical additives on the market and such.

    Thanks for the update RW.

This time of year there is very little to worry about. (Water temps below 50) Fish do very well in an aireated livewell. Even fish that want to go belly up on a release can be revived in a livewell. Just keep the pumps running.

You can install an “Oxygenator” into your livewell to raise the oxygen saturation level. Many times the water in livewells even with the aereator on is only about 35%. An oxygenator can raise that level to about 110% in only a couple minutes.
