    Hello –

Not sure if anyone has had this problem before but my boat is registered in Wisconsin and I moved to Minnesota last year and now I need to register my boat in Minnesota. I talked to the DNR and they said I just take my title to a place where I register vehicles and they will give me a whole new MN license number. The only concern is taking off the old decals – Does anyone have any tips without ruining my boat paint or leaving half the stickers on? Thanks.

Use a hair dryer to warm them up and then you should be able to peel them off easier.

I ususally use my fingernails and carefully peel them up. Any glue left behind, Goo Gone works good and doesnt ruin your paint.

I have heard a power washer can work good, never tried.

A product called Dirtex from Fleet Farm is inexpensive and works great for the extra glue when taking them off with a heat gun. Sometimes the gun don’t work so well…depending on the decal, that’s when dirtex really shines.

I just did this and I used a heat gun ( or Hair Dryer) to warm them up and goo gone to remove the residue.

Usually people from MN move to WI. They will be happy to get some help with the taxes. Use a plastic puddy knife if they don’t peel off easy.

Go to a local sign shop that does lettering and such on vehicles. They can sell you a can of stuff. I can’t remember what the stuff is called that I use but you spray it on and let it sit a couple minutes then it just peels right off. All the gue just wipes off. It works pretty good. It won’t damage the surface of your boat. I’ve even used it on my plastic windshields on my boat.

    Redundant but,…
Heat Gun and i used a little bit of Zep cleaner (probably comparable to acetone or naptha, but less harmful.

We just sold a couple semis and work and all the stickers had to be removed, (fun project)

Another suggestion though, at CarQuest, we have a lisle tool that is pretty much a screwdriver that holds a razor blade, but it comes with a plastic scraper (could probably find something similiar anywhere). Very handy, have used it many times to remove decals off the race car.

I also just did this. Moved from MN to WI. Used a hair dryer to remove the numbers and spray can of the stuff used to remove bugs on the front of your car for the excess glue. Worked Great.

3M Adhesive Remover – available at most automotive detail shops. Works great!

The one I got from MN last year pretty much just fell off it was of such high quality. I keep it in my glove box with my AIS sticker…

That being said, I have used Goo Gone with pretty good results in the past.
