Lowrance card reader installation problems

I bought the Lowrance 2.0 MMC card reader (just the reader, not MapCreate) late last year, and I am now getting around to installing it on my computer to allow updates for my LMS334 and LCX25.

My computer (a Dell w/ XP pro), doesn’t seem to recognize the reader when I put it in the USB port, and when I try to install the drivers, it asks me if I want to “Remove the color icon utility”. Thinking I must have a bad driver disc, I downloaded the drivers from LEI, and followed their instructions (ie: turn off anti virus, install drivers, turn off computer, install reader in USB and turn the computer back on). I was told to open the install.exe file, but with no .exe file listed, I assume they meant the install wizard file. Again, “Do you want to remove the color icon?” pops up on the screen.

I took the afternoon off to call Lowrance customer service, but they are having company meeting today. Has anyone had this problem and/or can you suggest a solution. Thanks for any help.

That should be plug and play no driver needed.

Have you tried rebooting the PC and plugging the LEI card reader into another USB port?

Thats what I would I would think with any SD reader. Can you find it in “My Computer” as a removable storage device?

    Thanks for all the ideas.
I did try it in all my USB ports, but it never showed up on My Computer as another drive like my CF card reader does.I’ll get a SD card reader tomorrow and try it.

Is there any problem formatting the cards to use in the GPS units?

    Thanks again
