Has anyone tried the Hummingbird Side Imaging Sonar to profile catfish habitat etc? Sounds like a neat way to see whats below the surface of some of those mats.

I saw an infomercial last weekend on this new Hummingbird. The imaging looks interesting, but wondering how difficult it is too read and how effective it would be on our lakes(from what i noticed, most of thier imaging was in the sea)

    Does anybody have one?

I don’t have one but I would like to get one. I worked a show at a Bass Pro several weeks ago. I spent quite a bit of time with the rep for Hummingbird since he also is the rep for Lucky Craft which it why he had me there. Anyway I was asking about the models with the side imaging since the came out last year. He was showing me a bunch of stuff on them. I guess law enforcement agencies are using them to aid their search for dead bodies and weapons and such. They are pretty easy to read. Hard objects like guns and knives show up pretty well and are clear to see. Bodies are easy to identify as well. He was showing me images of some of the scans and identifying schools of bait fish and fish as well. He explained to me how the side imaging works. I plan to rig my next boat with the Hummingbirds. You can buy them preloaded with the Navionics for the hole US for around $200. Heck, one chip costs $150. They are a great system. I don’t know why Hummingbird isn’t doing more to sell them. I’ve been buying Lowrance for years for the quality and reliability, but I have to say I’ve seen enough to want to try out one of the new Hummingbirds.
