I just wanted to say great job on the new classified section. It looks really sharp. It appears that you can only send a message to the user now instead of adding an additional post. I liked the ability to add a post because a lot of sportmsmen have the same question and it can get answered once by a user adding an additional post. I guess the seller can always add the question and answer himself. Plus, how are we suppose to keep the breast pump thread going Again, great job on continually making the site better.

To some degree it was nice to be able to communicate through the replies… when everyone was behaving themselves. Unfortunately what happened far too often was a classified ad was hijacked and the replies muddied up the content or someone posted some negative remarks about the item being sold… that it was overpriced, poor quality or that they themselves had one for sale at a lower price.
I’m sure you can see where that was an issue with those placing the ads.
So… onwards and upwards. The new photo loading system has a work-around for oversized pics so the 100,000 byte limit is no longer an issue. Plus you can add more than one photo per post (4 total).
Over the next week more features will begin to come online.
March 28, 2007 at 4:10 pm #554318I understand that and agree with the thoughts. The new photo system is amazing. You should add that functionality to all posts, that will save many users alot of hassle. I didn’t run a test on the classifieds, but I imagine it forces you to put in a price before you can post it, which is another great added feature.

Coming VERY soon.
Users will be able to upload just about any photo on their hard drive and our servers will do the sizing / adjusting.
March 28, 2007 at 4:21 pm #554326I thought I was in a different site for awhile or needed to log in-after a couple more cups of coffee I kind of figured it out that things changed- I deffintely see your view point- its a real bummer when someone shoots you down or posts there item under yours at a lower price-
March 28, 2007 at 4:35 pm #554335I would like to see something about posting pixs that makes it so simple that a “Caveman could do it” like e-mail someone with pixs, tell them where you want it posted and its done- we gave up on the browse stuff, you would sure get more pixs that is needed for posts- we would like to post pixs of 07 fishing and pixs under our classified ads-but just gave up and left our e-mail address- thats the caveman way

I’m not one to do anything manually when we can build automated systems to do the work. The new photo system is designed with the caveman / fishing crowd in mind. If you can find the pic on your hard drive you’ll be able to make it work.
When it comes online on the rest of the site you can kick the tires and let us know how it goes for you.
March 28, 2007 at 6:07 pm #554376Now we see what James really thinks of us

March 28, 2007 at 6:53 pm #554395Personally I liked the old way better, (seeing others replies, questions ect.) but I can see James point about the adds getting hyjacked and negative comments.
March 28, 2007 at 7:21 pm #554410The price will vary depending on the type of ad and such extras as syndication. By syndication I mean being displayed on the home page, along search results or similar items and other premium locations.
March 28, 2007 at 7:23 pm #554413I’ll miss the replys because so much detailed information was rooted out that way and you could see if there were serious buyers present.
March 28, 2007 at 7:32 pm #554417There is no time limit on editing the ads now so if questions come up that you didn’t think to answer you can edit your ad and answer them as they come in.
The wide open system was more headache than it was worth. (that being free) lol
I don’t know if James mentioned this publicly but this system is being built so that active members who post in the forums (not in the classifieds) are rewarded free classified ads. Some people only come here to post classifieds. The logistics of it are not final yet but it’s coming.
March 28, 2007 at 8:23 pm #554451So with all those fabulous posts BrianK does, will he be able to let us borrow some. as I am guessing he will have more then a few extra ads avaialble for sale.
Broncs
March 28, 2007 at 9:00 pm #554471yeah! kind of like the carbon offset credits Gore claims to purchase! I’ll sell my classified credits for $200 a pop.
March 28, 2007 at 9:45 pm #554483Thanks! The dark ominous look helps keep the support questions down. LOL
March 29, 2007 at 2:19 am #545094I’m having problems trying to send a message about a item I’m interested in.
Thanks Pier.
March 29, 2007 at 2:19 am #554581Just a note –
There are two new personal info fields in which you can add contact information such as an email address and phone number. This information will be displayed to those who send you a message from your classified ad. (viewable to visitors too)
The link to send the private message has been changed to require javascript enabled. Most (if not all) spam bots run without javascript enabled so the chances of them following the link are very low.
I see many people placing their personal info in the ad which does leave them open to spam. This will help cut down on it some.

Is anyone else having problems trying to send a message regarding an item they are interested in.
I’m not getting any responce when hitting the send message button.March 29, 2007 at 3:32 am #554602Can we have the ability back to edit our own post however long later too? Such a PITA to drop prices under the old system I assume nothing changed?

We’re a work in progress.
Here’s a work-around. Instead of clicking the “send message” tab, click the posters name, located on the left side and shoot that person a PM. Works for me.

You will be able to edit posts (there will be no time limit) and the new system will record all changes to the ad and display those changes so people can’t pull a switch-a-roo.
March 29, 2007 at 3:43 am #554611Is it working now? I was testing from another browser and forgot about the page being cached for visitors. Needless to say I went in circles for a bit until I realized why the page wasn’t changing. LoL
Are you using a Mac? I don’t have one so I can’t test safari. Firefox seemed to work fine as well as did Konqueror. I hadn’t tried Opera but I will after this.
March 29, 2007 at 3:44 am #554613And we thank you guys for being patient with us as the new system is integrated.
Any other questions… just holla.
March 29, 2007 at 4:32 am #554618Windows….Not working with IE or Avant brower’s.
When I hold the cursor over the send message button I get a Javascript:void()……….
