Its a crap shoot. If they ask, then its a issue. You also can possibly pay a fee, if you let them know ahead of time, its a couple Hundred bucks. Good luck.

As stated, it is a crap shoot.
Don’t drive in or take your vehicle. That will stop you. But as a passanger, it is a “maybe” if you will be caught.
I would call customs and get “up to date” info on it direct from the horse’s mouth..
here ya go! If it has been 10 or more years you are ok! without sending an application of rehabilitation!
but you can find out all the details here!

Here is another webpage: http://www.infonorth.net/
as well as another that I found looking at this issue last year:

Hope these help, but as Gary stated, be a passenger.
Getting your passport is also another tip that I have heard.

Sounds like you “may” need a passport this year or next. If you do plan on getting a passport, it could take a long time -start early (several months ahead of your trip).
I believe for 2007 you need a passport to fly into Canada but you don’t need one to drive in. In 2008 you need one to drive in also.
Thats the latest I heard, by Air or Water, you need Passport, in 2008, you will need it for all entry. Same for Mexico.

Start the process now is all I can say. It took me 6 months and a canadian attorney to get permission to visit one of our business centers. I can’t imagine if I was going to fish.
I still have not attempted to cross the border. It’s a painful process and I’m still very how hard they make this. The lack of information is unbelieveable. I called so many different customs and consulate offices. I could never get a straight answer on forms or the fees. In the end my, company spent over $2k to get everything filled out and approved.
Keep in mind guys that a passport is not a bad idea to get this year. The reason they are stating this is just in case there is an emergency and you have to be flown back to the states, there could be issues.
Kooty, I agree, I was a bad boy over twenty years ago. I tried every location and finally found Detroit to be the best of the alternatives. I recovered my records from the early eighties and had copies with me in case. I almost got the letters of rehab from business aquaintances but decided to take my chances by being the passenger. WI stated that they would erase the dui from my record. If I get another one though, I really wonder if those circumstances would reappear???

Both booths are side by side at the Sport show. I would get it right from the horses…..
My advice is this, I screwed up 8 years ago and got a DWI, I have since averaged 2 trips a year. I have been asked a few times at the border and have flat out denied it and that is as far as it has gone. I have been tore down, had my licsense taken from me for inspection- I heard they have a machine that can inspect it for traces of drugs but I don’t know (they gave it back after an hour). Fact is I wont admit it and they dont seem to care or know. I have driven my own vehicle every time I have gone and I always get a few case of border beer..I am very respectful, courtious and give exact answers to there questions with no hesitation and look them straight in the eye. Well thats my advice- call me whatever you want. If I get caught I turn around and never come back. Big deal. I like going there but I will not be intimidated or feel ashamed because I made one mistake in my life. Thats my 2 cents worth….

They didn’t know squat. Maybe there are different individuals each day. But the folks working the other night were not helpful.
