Hey fisherpeople. I’m wondering if any of you has had good or bad experiences with a plastic prop? I need to replace one and I’m not sure if I should go with aluminum or plastic (plastic is cheaper of course by about $20 but I want to know if it’s worth it or not).

I would not rely on a plastic or composite prop as my main propeller. I would only consider one as a spare.

Plastic props have too much flex and are worthless after one ding. I would also assume they become brittle in cold water.

Stick with a quality aluminum or upgrade to a stainless steel prop.

    Good Luck,
    Jon J.

I have one for my 88 Evinrude SPL and it has never been a problem, but I tend to agree with Jon J. Keep a spare Aluminum on hand. I bought the plastic one because it was four-bladed and tneded to do a better job pulling multiple skiers. Anyway, it has been OK for me.

Thanks for your take guys. I guess I’ll stick with aluminum and perhaps get a plastic or re-conditioned aluminum one for spare usage.
