Problems with trolling motor

    Guys I need your help. I have a 74 pound Maxxum and it’s obviously a 24 volt motor. I have no problem running my motor when the dial reads 0-50. If I turn the dial up beyond 40-50 for an extended amount of time, I get intermittent power. It will cut in and out while trying to run it. Anyone ever have this problem? If you have, what did you do to fix it? Could it be the way it’s hooked up to the batteries? I’d appreciate any help.

    Sounds like a bad/corroded connection. Check all your connections and clean them up, see if that helps.

    Do you have a fuse or breaker? If you have a breaker I had that problem and all I had to do is go from a 20amp to a 30amp.

    If your breaker is a auto reset this might be the case…….which means you have to find out why it is going of. I had a loose wire in the female end of the plug that caused a similar problem.

    Good Luck,

    I had a similar problem last year, trolling motor issues, smelt something burning, never put two and two together until after the trolling motor quit, found my fuse and holder all burnt and crispy, seems some water finally got in and corroded up some connections and it shorted out. Luckily I didn’t have a real fire.

    Yes;
    you have a poor connection/loose wire/corroded connection somewhere.

    Get it fixed now before you cook the whole thing!

    Basically, follow the power/ground wires from the battery right into the foot pedal. If you have an Multi-meter, I recommend using it.
