I am looking to get a few st. croix rods and currently have one avid series but was wondering if anyone has tried the premier series and how well they performed.

I have a number of the premier model St.Croix’s. They are in the baitcasting and spinning style! They are a great rod for the money. They are not as sensitive as an Avid, but your not having the same investment in it either.

You will not be disapointed in either style….just depends on your budget.

    Hope this helps,

do you think there is much of a difference from the truimph and the premier besides where they are made?

The Triumph’s are good rods for the money I have fished with the Triumph rods a few times and was pretty suprised at how well they performed. If you don’t mind where they were made, then you will be happy with them. They aren’t an Avid, but just as good as the Premiere only more cost effective

My baitcasters, with the exception of my 8’6” and 10’6” WildRiver rods, are all St. Croix Premier Rods. I like them very much. Great rods. I also have a few Premier spinning rods and they are very nice rods but most of my spinning rods are Avids. Below you will find a link to where you can pm Joe Moenck at. Joey bought a St. Croix Truimph spinning rod to see what they are like and was very happy with it. It felt alittle bit lighter than the Premier and said that he would buy another one. Which ever models you choose you can’t go wrong with St. Croixs. Very sensitive and great rods in my book.
    Thanks, Bill

    Ace,

If you haven’t heard about it already, Everts resort on Pool 4 is a full-line St Croix dealer, and has a “try before you buy” policy. Ask Dean for a loaner St Croix in the lines that you are considering, and take them for a spin on the river. That will allow you to see the rods in action before you open up the wallet.

One word of caution….don’t borrow a walleye tournament series rod….you’ll never be able to fish with anything else. All other rods will feel like telephone poles compared to those baby blues.

I think alot depends on what you want to do with your new rods….I think it is easier to justify added quality on finesse or vertical applications vs pulling or casting cranks. That is the nice thing with St Croix and the choices they offer….but it is a nice option to feel in person the difference vs looking in the catalog.Good luck!

The Premier rods are great rods for trolling cranks with Superlines or mono. They are fantastic for pulling three ways and cranks/crawlers. The fall bite on Mille Lacs would be a great time and place for Premier bait casting and trolling rods. I prefer 7 foot rods for these applications.
For pitching and jigging, you may want to opt up to the Avid series. Don’t get me wrong! A 6 or 6.6 Premier is still a heck of a lot better than most rods you can buy off the shelf for jigging and rigging.
