    Im looking at a 06 Lund tyee 1850 with either a Yam 4s 150 or an optimax 150. I going to rig with a kicker right away. Any preferences and or experiences with the motors with a similar boat? Will the motors be enough? Cause an upgrade to a 175 opti or 200 yam would rule out the kicker for now. Wife says too much $. Thanks

    First upgrade, you won’t regret it.

    Among the two motors my personal preference would be the Yamaha.

    I would go with the bigger motor but not in black 4 stroke would be my preference but the 200 HPDI is also a good motor in a 2 stroke.Better off running a drift sock and adding a kicker later than under powering the boat.

    Welcome to IDA Camron. Great first post!!

    G3 Prostaffer Chris Tuckner said this last year

    as to why he chose the Yam. F150 over the F200.

    Quote from Chris on 3-7-06;

    “TBO/MN is getting over 50 MPH in a 18 foot Lund Fisherman, and I have been hearing reports of this boat doing upper 40’s close to 50 with the 150. I will have a kicker, and a big old partner plus big old me in there, so if I get mid 40’s, I’ll be happy. It is a big roomy comfortable boat. I chose the 150 for fuel economy. I could easily have went with the 200. But I would have gained 2 more cyliders to feed. For a few MPH, I didn’t see the value. I will be able to sell this boat at years end to someone easier with the fuel sipping 150 than the 200. Much cheaper too!”

    Hopefully he will see this post and will tell us if he was

    happy with his decision.

    It all depends on your personal situation, but if it were me, I would opt for the 175 or 200 Optimax and add the kicker next year.

    As far as the 1800 Fisherman doing 50mph, with a 150 on it, that could be. But I think the 1850 Tyeee is a little more boat then the Fisherman and I would imagine you would not see the same speed with a 150 on a 1850 Tyee. Just my opinion.

    Depending on the prop my 182 Tourney Crestliner can flirt with 50 mph with a 135 Optimax on it.

    I would do a little research on this by going to both manufacture’s websites.

    You want to look for fuel consumption primarily.

    However, my “guess” would be that the Opti has more torque than the Yamaha 4-stroke. Again, this is a guess.
