Peeling Boat Cover – Suggestions?

I have a “top of the line” Cabela’s boat cover that’s giving me some issues: The bottom surface(facing boat)is flaking off leaving small whiteflakes all over the inside of the boat. Anybody have a suggestion for resealing the bottom side of the cover? I tried a spray silicone and didn’t help – will likely need something that’s thick enough to brush on…. or….? Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Pete

    How old is it?
I would probably take it back?

    Ditto to Gary.

Edit: I ditto the part about taking it back! I have been suprised a few times that they accepted things I have returned that I had for 2-5 years, sometimes with no receipt. Cabelas is outstanding on this policy!

One major reason I buy from Cableas is not the service, price, supply, etc. It is their return policy, they care about their customer satisfaction and generally honor their products, especially if it has their name on it.

You could possibly try a spray on rubber coating
like Loctite Color Guard. I found this on Clamcorp’s
website. Go to bottom of link
Could not find it on the Loctite site.

Most retailers will take care of such an issue. My experience with Cabelas is they usually go out of their way to keep their name in a positive light. Given that, if they push back at all about service, I’d tell the fishing and/or boating department manager to read this thread so they’re aware of potential bad press. More than likely you won’t need to go to such an extreme, but the option is there…..take it back.

you won’t have to have a department supervisor read this post or worry about Cabelas recieving bad press on IDA…they will take that cover back!!!!
You will read about how Cabelas is a good company for taking back a product that is older, and returned for a new one!!! Customer is #1 at Cabelas, if the customer is not happy with a product they will do whatever it takes to ensure that you leave the store completly satisfied!
    Just my expierence with Cabelas!!!

Take it back, get a refund, and with a boat as nice as yours looks get a custom made cover for it. Unlike most of the guys on this post I am not as big a fan of Cabela’s mostly because quality is not always #1.

Highly unlikely, but if you happen to live is SE Wisconsin let me know and I will E Mail you a great place to get a new cover.

Cabela’s is awesome for taking stuff back that has their name on it.

I found their quality of clothing to be top notch as well, since they make tall sizes!

    I love that store!

Hey Cal, I got an old pair of Cabela leather boots that are about 10 years old. Worn the rubber down to nothing. Will they take them back, since the rubber didn’t last!
These boots are still water proof and the most comfortable pair of boots I own today!

    Rob,
It seems that you are able to “Stir the Chili” with the fine members of this site on just about any subject.

I appreciate the testimonials & comments re: Cabela’s – I will indeed bring this string to Cabela’s when I get the boat from storage.

    Thanks
    Pete

When u take it back, ask really nicely for a refund instead of store credit or an exchange, so then u can get a nice custom shoremaster cover, top of the line

Great advice. It’s done well for traveling, but certainly isn’t on par with a custom made cover; on the other hand – you would think it would sun-rot before the rubberized coating gives out.
