Tried to post a link earlier, didn’t work. Anyways, the new Pepsi Cans, which are suppose to be patriotic, have the Pledge of allegiance on them, minus the “Under God”. When questioned, Pepsi said they did not want to offend anyone ? Affend someone with the “correct” American Pledge of Allegiance ? What does that mean ?

This is just another Urban Legend. There have been emails going around that claim either Pepsi or Coke have made these cans. Not true. Back in 2001, Dr. Pepper had made a can with the Statue of Liberty that had the words “One Nation……..Indivisible”, omitting the words “Under God”, supposedly because there wasn’t enough room on the can. Yeah, right. But they got enough grief that they pulled the cans after a month or so.

This has been floating around for some time from the looks of it. I found a story on Urban Legends from 2002 stating it is not true. They have an official statement from Pepsi on there.

If you are looking for any verification on any urban legends or if you are wondering the “truth” of any controversial items, go to Snopes.com and do a search on that item(ie:pepsi can). Most of the time if there is a question as to the subject being “true” or “false”, they will have something posted, along with an explanation of the situation.

Would you consider the “Correct” Pledge of allegiance to be the original one or the one that congress modified in the 50s to include the reference to God?

Guessing that is why the “link” did not work, FALSE.

I Pledge Allegiance (I Promise to be faithful and true Promise my loyalty)

to the flag (to the emblem that stands for and represents)

of the United States (all 50 states, each of them individual, and individually represented on the flag)

of America (yet formed into a UNION of one Nation.)

and to the Republic (And I also pledge my loyalty to the Government that is itself a Republic, a form of government where the PEOPLE are sovereign)

for which it stands (this government also being represented by the Flag to which I promise loyalty)

one Nation under God, (These 50 individual states are united as a single Republic under the Divine providence of God, “our most powerful resource” (according to the words of President Eisenhower)

Indivisible, (and can not be separated) (This part of the original version of the pledge was written just 50 years after the beginning of the Civil War and demonstrates the unity sought in the years after that divisive period in our history)

with Liberty (The people of this Nation being afforded the freedom to pursue “life, liberty, and happiness”)

and Justice (And each person entitled to be treated justly, fairly, and according to proper law and principle)

for All. (And these principles afforded to EVERY AMERICAN, regardless of race, religion, color, creed, or any other criteria. Just as the flag represents 50 individual states that can not be divided or separated, this Nation represents millions of people who can not be separated or divided)

    Bravo Dartman!

In my opinion, I think this nation needs to go back to more “under God” instead of less. We might be better off.

A bit off topic, but slightly relevent, I heard on the radio the other day that the US Treasury had many coins recently that were unintentionally stamped without the words “In God We Trust” and that they made it into ciculation by mistake. Any one else heard about this???
