Does anyone have input on external vs. internal antennas for the Garmin 178. I’m looking at buying one (sick of the hand held) and am debating between both models. Which one is better?

I have owned both….the internal works VERY well no issues and is handy if you want to move it to other locations.Either one will do a good job for ya,good luck!

I have had VERY good luck with the Garmin internal ant. I highly recommend going that route!

The Garmin internal antenna is awesome. I have sold and installed many of these units. Never had an issue with the internal antenna. It is your best option in my opinion!

Nick is right, the external is the way to go for that reason

I picked one up and I am pleased with the performance.

The external antenna also lets you flush-mount the graph if you choose.

You can buy an extra power cord and transducer, and move it anywhere around the boat. You do not need to worry about the puck antennae.

I have a 188 with the internal antenna and have never had a proplem with it.
It is for sale though because I’m upgrading this year.

How much for the 188? I loved that unit! I need one for the back of the G3 for this fall…

It is NOT a color unit. I’d take $225 + shipping for it.
