As of late I have noticed the who’s better or worse motor war spilling into the Classifieds. I for one would be extremely upset if somone took a shot at the options available on my boat when trying to sell it.

IDA has been a place for all of us to talk fishing, and find freinds. Lets not forget that when somone attempts to sell there rig on this site. If not, you may be on the recieving end of this war some day.

Hope this post doesn’t offend anyone.

    Morning Chris;

Please shoot me a PM where this is. I’ll fix and address this issue.

Thanks for bringing this to light.

You are correct with your statement and “motor brand wars” will not be tolerated or allowed to hi-jack any classified thread.

Looks like you already took care of the latest one. Thanks Gary. It just rubbed me the wrong way I guess.

This has been such an issue lately that we’ve spent some considerable time to revamp the classifieds system. We’re wrapping things up and should be releasing it for use here soon.

Sadly a small minority have turned a free “on your honor” service into a mess for those that use it and a NIGHTMARE for the staff members here that moderate those forums.

I think that the whole staff here at IDA deserves a huge pat on the back for their great work to keep up this site and allow us users the use of it . If that makes any sense? The staff is excellent at addressing issues with concern and speed. Just want to say Great job and thank you for your hard work. This site has really helped me with planning trips and has saved me time and effort in catching more fish. This is a very important tool in my fishing arsenal. Once again great job and please keep up the good work as we all know you do.

However, there is always the exception to the rule.

him being the exception is correct. might have to bring that to the games for his motivation.

Well if my response was offensive I appoligize. It was not meant to be. I was Just letting the guy know that My dealer will sell you what you want for a motor on your boat. So I do think this was a little over reacting for deleting my post. Most poeple probably dont know that Pro-Staff Lund Fishermen must have a Mercury on their boat. A person can walk into a dealer and buy a Yamaha or whatever and have it installed on your boat.

    Rigging Guy

No harm, no foul. We’ve had s slug of people asking us to find a way to keep the classifieds “on topic” after the advertisement is placed so we were in no way singling anyone out.

In the future once the new system rolls out all communication about an ad is going to be limited to PM’s here on the site and through the various contact methods offered by the poster. We won’t be allowing any replies to the ads to avoid this type of situation.

And that should keep everyone happy.

That seems pretty straight forward and easy to follow. I think most that are truely interested in something located in the classifieds are sending PM’s and emails anyway. Seems like a logical fix.

We’ll also be tightening down on “one post and out” or pro sellers using the free classifieds.

My goal with the classifieds has always been to offer a free service to our active members. People that take the time to interact and share with others here deserve nothing less. Unfortunately our classified section has become quite the target for those willing to skirt the rules and take advantage of a system originally created for contributing members.

We will be going to a pay classifieds system.

However… contributing members will “earn” free classifieds by contributing in the open forums by making posts. New members or those that don’t contribute will have the option to pay to use the system. We will have a monitor in place that will look for anyone making repetitious posts to increase their post total to “earn” a classified ad. Anyone detected inflating their post count will automatically start over in regards to earning a classified ad.

Ad pricing will be kept low and the system will be completely automated with an advanced search function.

Those that consistently share here will never have to buy an ad and those that want to sell some thing but don’t have time or interest to be involved won’t get hassled by me or the moderators.

And best of all… our moderators will no longer have to deal with those abusing the system. If everyone knew what this small group went through on a day to day basis moderating that area…. you’d shake your head in disgust at the way they get treated for pointing out simple rules and chasing off pro sellers.

I always wondered how you could come up with a system to snare the pro sellers. I like it !!

Rigging Guy, I saw your post and responded to yours. I think yours got lumped in with the other ones and if anything your post helped point out why the other ones should be deleted. In my opinion, yours was the only one that actually had metrit to the post, including mine.
