I am looking at putting a CD/Stereo into my boat. I have a 620 Ranger and am curious if anyone has done this before. Currently I have nothing in there, so I’d have to mount speakers and all. The deck itself will be easy, I am just looking for ideas on where/how to mount the speakers.

With Rangers, I would mount them high above the water level that builds up inside the boat after you spear those big Mille Lacs waves!

*That is an attempted joke, and may not be the views of all IDA staff.*

On my old Ranger I had mounted the speakers under the passenger and driver counsels. It work great and the sound was very good. The radio was mounted in the storage compartment.

I should have mentioned also that its a tiller so the counsel option wouldn’t work for me. But thanks for the idea, I might be able to mount one in my tackle storage compartment.

The newer marine speakers can handle the rain/splash. I re-did my stereo last summer, and want an all around up grade this year. Wade has some excellent options for a nice set up, Best Buy, they just looked at me funny. I would like to go with a system which has a jack on the front to plug in an I Pod, or a portible satellite radio receiver. My speakers are cheep cheep, but they are marine speakers and have been through everything and still work good. Your deck should come with a water tight sheild, which does work if you remember to keep the thing down. The newer decks also have pretty good anti skip, so they still play a CD when motoring. I have a full windsheild and the 4 speakers are in the back, so if someone fishes in the bow, they have a hard time hearing. I enjoy pullin the kids around on tubes and pulling up on shore and cracking a brew and listening to the blues. Don’t drink and drive pull’n the kids!
